I was a lifeguard at T-Bird Beach in the early 90's. Once, I watched a drunk white trash family let their toddler just walk down to the water and fall in face first. I swooped in for the rescue. Another time I watch a drunk black man walk down to the water and fall in face first. I swooped in for the rescue.

The train riders don't look very enthusiastic. I remember going to TB in the mid 70's driving through Central area when it was nothing but trees. I think my mom watched Three Dog Night there as well.

I was a summer day camp councelor for BREC when I was in college. The last day of camp all the parks would go to T-Bird beach for the day.
It was what we waited for all summer. We pretty much completely ignored the kids, they could be drowning each other by that time and we didn't care.
We all just hung out and got a tan. There was always a good mix of coed councelors and hook ups were pretty common. There was even a myth that two councelors snuck off in to the woods to bang. I'm not sure if that really happened, but it was true that two of the older kids (13 yo) from Howell Park got in to some heavy petting and told the rest of the kids.
Howell Park was a trip. I worked there the first year I worked for BREC. I may have been the first white person some of those kids had ever gotten close to. This was the 80's and so I had a mullet hair cut. All the little black kids wanted to touch my hair. They may have been rough around the edges, but those were the best behaved kids of all the parks I worked at. They were truly happy to be there and grateful to have fun stuff to do for the summer. The other parks I worked at had kids that were pretty spoiled in general.
