Pretty sure Violent Femmes opened for REM at the Assembly Center somewhere between 88-90, they were a regular in Baton Rouge.
U2 had a Joshua Tree date at the Assembly Center which probably woulda been '97, an incredible show.
Saw a nascent Garth Brooks at the Texas Club right after he cut Much too Young.
BTE was a staple at frat parties both when it was just Kevin Griffin and Joel Rundell playing guitar then later as BTE, before they starting playing Murphy's and finally released Surprise and really made it.
There were a ton of college rock indie bands playing the LSU bar scene in the 80's - HooDoo Gurus, Guadalcanal Diary, more that I can't recall without going to google.

1978 SAE had a band for Corral called Mississippi. When they cranked up, everyone started drifting towards our house. The were amazing - they changed their name shortly after that to -Little River Band.

That is brand new information !!!

When he quit Murphy's to concentrate on original material(they were a cover band) I took his place as the 3rd DJ. Damn that was a fun job.

Gum boots on Freddie Mercury.
Saw Men at Work, Quarterflash and the Fixx (separately) on the Riverboat President.
Waiting for the tickets in Spanish Plaza overnight was better than the concerts.
My gf was proud to show off....
