In reality, there is only sex, which can be biologically male, female, or intersex(ambigous, hermaphrodite).

Now we use gender to refer to a conflation of biological sex and what a person feels like they are or should be.

The fact that gender can be so indeterminate and ambiguous and can change according to the moods of some individuals should steer us in the direction of disuse.

That said, I do realize some men exhibit more feminine traits than the avg. and some women exhibit more masculine traits than the avg. I have accounted for that.

From now on, I would propose we refer only to biological sex and categorize people as being more or less masculine and feminine.

not really, though that's what it was supposed to be

if you fill out a form now, they ask for gender when they should be asking for sex. they've effectively eliminated biology from the equation.

That's because since the existence of a functioning civilization, gender and sex have been linked and have been used interchangeably. It wasn't until our cultural Marxist friends decided to redefine the meaning of gender that we've run into these issues.

correct, and as long as we use them interchangeably there is always an opening for the bs we have now.

i propose a simplification by elimination. simpler is almost always better.

We should just drop everything and go by XX or XY.

If you have a dick and balls, then you're a dude. There's no need to make the most obvious fact that exists to be a complicated matter

It's so simple, even a kindergartner understands it.

How are you going to eliminate that? These people are saying that not referring to their perceived gender is dehumanizing. So, by eliminating that and referring to their biological sex, you're doing nothing more than repeating the system we have been using for thousands of years. Gender and sex are not independent except for in the eyes of left wing morons.

A long time ago, I heard a gentleman discuss the improper use of the word gender to refer to someone's sex. Gender, this person stated, was supposed to identify language usage not physical biology.

Latin languages, I am told, are gender specific, having masculine and feminine nouns.

The boy = Le garçon
The girl = La fille

This was certainly my recollection from the high school french class I took in the 70's. I doubt that has changed.

Umm.

No.

You're just placating to the people who have mental illnesses (or just some of which are desperate fort attention). This way of thinking goes against nature. It's what you would call a defect of nature. Pretending that it's normal does nothing to help the situation. Now I empathize with these people but just because they think it does not make it so. Sorry.

when i said "categorize them as masculine of feminine," i should have been more specific.

I did not mean categorize them in a legal sense, i meant in everyday parlance, in social situations, etc.

for the sake of science and legal purposes, biology should be all that matters.

as far as people's feelings are concerned, I'm not sure why that should matter at all.

There are somewhere around 11 or 12 sex chromosome disorders that lead to extra X or Y chromosomes. All totalled, though, they likely account for well under 1% of the population. So I'm still good with XX or XY.

Or maybe assign a word to those genetic characteristic. I'd say XX=Female and XY=Male should work.

i'd be interested to hear the full extent of that discussion

yes, that is a whole other can of worms. when i was living in france, there were a fringe few pushing to eliminate gender from the language and a fringe few who were proposing adding to it.

admittedly, taking away would definitely make the language easier to learn, but you'd risk losing the essense of a whole branch of languages.

i agree with you. I mistakenly added "categorize people as being more or less masculine and feminine" without qualifying that this should only be for purposes of informal communication, not legal or otherwise binding.
