My niece got into 2 wrecks because she was texting. One time she just ran off the road into a ditch. At least she didn't hit anyone else ..

But the 2nd time she ran into the back of someone because they she was looking down at her phone and when she looked back up, she had to hit her breaks and she was too close to avoid the car in front of her.

When she was allowed to drive again, her mom would go park somewhere, where she would see her. She caught her texting again. Took her keys from her for awhile, but adults do it just as much as teenagers.

Stop being idiots and wait or pull over to text.

It is the norm not the exception anymore. It is infuriating to say the least. And in the case of light cycles that don't last long it causes a lot of delays for people unfortunate enough to be several cars deep of the dumbass.

Yep. It makes traffic worse. I know I've missed lights that I would have made if the person 4 cars ahead of me wasn't on their phone. That shite triggers the hell out of me.

If someone is obviously on their phone & swerving into your lane can you be held responsible if they wreck from you laying on your horn at them?

Distracted driving is about as dangerous as drunk driving and should have severe penalties.

I believe what is going to happen is cellphones are going to be mandated to be locked with no way to open them while they are moving as fast as a car goes. I am sure there will be ways to override it, but to me that is the natural progression of things eventually. I am not sure how this will work but I really believe it will be something like this that will penalize us all for the stupidity of the ones doing it the most.

i.e. something like Nissan does on the GPS functionality that does not allow you to type in addresses while the car is moving.

That would have to be for the driver only, people would riot if nobody in the car could use their phone - self driving cars, etc. feels like it is more likely to be the answer. Continued awareness, penalties, etc. until that time IMO.

We're on the brink of this and drinking and driving being a complete non-issue. I cannot wait until I can shower, iron & get dressed on my commute in to work. Or even taking naps or getting work done on longer trips.

The cars of the future will be remote work spaces or designed for comfort and utility to get ready.

When I see someone walking towards me on a collision course, I just stand still and let him or her bounce off of me.

People are rude everywhere with their phones. Loud conversations in public. Holding up lines because they're on the phone at the register. Playing on their phone in a dark movie theater. Playing on their phone while driving.

People are generally self centered assholes to begin with. Phones just gave them an outlet for their assholery.
