There is a bird stuck in my chimney?

Came home for lunch. Heard loud chirping coming from the fireplace. Opened the flue but the little guy isn’t coming out.

What are my options here? Wait it out or just light it up and give him a quick death?

I had it happen to me. I called an exterminator and he just told me to wait it out. He would die in a few days. I worried about the smell of decomp and he said there wouldn’t be any. He was right.

It was summer time when it happend to me. Blaze up.

If you light a fire and if there is a nest and other buildup you have a potential fire hazard. If you light a fire, you may burn your house down.

Had a fire last week during the cold snap. Think the little fella just got lost.

Thread title sounds like code lingo for "Hey, do I have a booger hanging?"

I had a squirrel die in mine... About a week later there were hundreds of flies on the fire place screen... I eased it outside and shook them off.. The remaining ones were caught on fly paper...

Is your damper open? It seems like at some point it would head for the light and escape on its own.

Is your chimney 100% brick or stone. Or is it the modern big house made of plywood with brick veneer.

If it's plywood, wait until the bird dies and drops, Otherwise Fire damage is possible. You do have a fire extinguisher next to any fireplace you use as a fireplace?

If you have a woodstove that feeds its smoke into a double walled stainless steel set of pipes that go up the chimney, the bird will probably die from the heat if you have a fire this next cold snap.

Bird's gonna die. Which beats being on fire and coming into your house.

How is it "stuck"? Can it fly? Is it hoovering in place? Why wouldn't it fall or fly out the bottem?

Bird can’t get any lift in a confined place like a chimney.
