Compared to the opportunities boomers had? It’s objectively not “fair”

Anything I have left will go to the state rather than a young person.

Talk about “entitled” and see these kids expecting a windfall from the people that earned it as examples.

If Boomers cared about preserving capitalism, they would support significant initiatives to overhaul zoning and building codes and allow for huge amounts of low cost housing in their communities.

Right now we’re running headlong into a situation where most people have no skin in the capitalist system.

Via wealth transfer to their heirs’ hands, of course.

I am one of the older home owners.
I see things in the 20 and 30 somethings that weren't happening when I was those ages. (Yes, I can remember back that far)
We weren't tied to telephones. We only used long distance knowing it would cost us (so we called after 11pm) and we didn't talk unless we had something important to say. This means we had a fairly cheap phone bill.
Our cars were basic, we rolled our windows up and down, the gubment (sic) was just beginning to dictate what engines were supposed to do. Cars were cheaper, paid off faster, and were not very well made.
Roommates kept the cost of apartments lower.
We camped on vacations, and there were cheaper motels that weren't drug dens.
There weren't as many drugs to buy.
Tickets to concerts were a whole lot less.
There were only four tv choices and they were free.

We had more un-spent money to put towards buying houses.

Boomers are mostly retired. This is the kind of thing Gen x and or millennials can do, but won’t.

In 2015 we sold our first little starter home, 2 bed 2 bath for 110k. It just sold again for 210k.

100k increase in 10 years. Doubt wages are on the same pace.

Ants can do this, but boomers cannot.

What do you want, mass suicide for anyone between the ages of 60-80?

I don't understand what younger people are expecting of boomers who are just trying to transition from working to retirement.

Eh, more so the house you were purchasing cost far less of your uspent money. Yes, there are plenty of the younger generation that live far beyond their means and that contributes to this issue, but we can just look at the median house price to the median income and tell that the heart of the problem is not that you had more money to spend.

That doesn't even really touch on issues of supply and lack of homes being built over the last 15-20 years, or the state that these homes are in now that still cost a ton. The upkeep on these houses has not been done on a large portion of them, so while even asking for a premium price on them, they will need a ton of work to improve.

Retirement has nothing to do with voting in more pro-development representatives.

They could stop showing up at planning meetings bitching about traffic.

The very youngest are in their early 60s. Oldests being almost 80. Gen x and millennials are in our primes. Our generations could fix these things but it’s not going to happen.

The would require Boomers to relinquish control of the Voting Party. Instead they pick winners and losers.

I can’t count how many of my friends have downsized their homes in the last 3 years. It’s very common for empty nesters to sell their 3000+ sq ft home and downsize and “buy” a much smaller under 2000 sq ft home.

This isn’t news. lol

This is not good. An entire generation with no prospects for homeownership can only lead to bad things.

It’s true, but I don’t know how you fix it other than going full commie and forcing sales prices to be lower, and nobody with a brain wants that. I’ve read that this is just another feature of late-stage capitalism.

I’ll readily admit that I am no expert, and have no real solutions to contribute.

Obviously not, Mr Strawman

How about a “well it’s clear to us it's much more difficult to get a start these days, and we know that when we die, the government’s gonna get half of what we own. So maybe we shouldn’t bandy around about blowing all our money on our aged selves while hypocritically blaming the economic hardships of the younger generations on them without looking into the mirror and questioning if we’re the entitled idiots in the first place.“
