Today I stopped at a gas station to get a drink on my drive home. While in the store, I was coming around one of the isles and two guys were ahead of me.

One man was paying and the other turned around. I could tell that he had a disability of some sort and the gentelman with him was probably taking him somewhere in the community.

I immediately say hi to him when he turned around and he smiled and turned to the gentleman. I then asked how is day was going and he replied back saying, it's a good day.

I proceed to say goodbye as they check out. A gentleman comes around another isle, a bit rushed, and didn't see me. He apologized and said, I'm sorry, I was not paying attention, after you sir.

The young man was an African American male. Well presented and mannered. I say thank you and pay for my stuff. After, I said to the guy, thanks again. Get outside and notice he's from Louisiana.

This was in small town Illinios where there isn't much diversity. It made me smile and happy that America was working 4.0 today, like it does 99% of the time.

That's nice.

Out of curiosity, are you about 80 years old?

No. Happy to see that chain of positive interaction with a diverse group.

Showing proof that the world isn't evil calling people retards or "ninjas."

You should get the point

I stopped by the gas station today and got accosted by a dirty bum wanting money. I said no because I believe you will buy booze with it and I just want to pump gas without being confronted by the decay of western society. He said frick you then and I said whatever get outta here hobo.

Just your typical gas station interaction in America.

Up vote for your good day. I go OUT my way to try every day to say something to someone to bring a smile to their face if I am in public. And yes, many times, I get the same reply. People really want to connect. One just has to take the time.

I had to read this twice to make sure I wasn't missing some hidden point...

Then I realized you were just happy that a black guy said excuse me because he almost bumped into you?

Uh, that seems like a pretty common interaction. Unless you sit inside and watch shitty news all day about how terrible the world is, you'd know that people are generally pleasant in person.

At least in LA.

I avoided an interaction with a crazy bum at a gas station in Laffy today because some unsuspecting Texan walked between us and allowed said bum to engage him.

Thanks, unsuspecting Texan, this Four Loko is for you.

So you saw a dude, who was black, who was "well presented and mannered" and because of that you think the world is still a good place?

I am not saying the world is not a good place. I actually think there is a lot of good in the world.. It's just that when people have bad experiences, it tends to stick with them longer and changes their perception quicker than good experiences, but have you not been around many black people?
