Pretty much agree with what you said - but there aren’t any neighborhoods anymore that are primarily any one school.

I mean, back in the 50s and 60s - when there were even more Catholic high schools - you tended to go to the neighborhood high school - but since white flight the kids either went to where they wanted to, but mostly where your parents told you to go

Because Jesuit is the best, lol.

While I did send my boys to Jesuit, I would not have if it were not a good fit. But to hell with letting a 13 yr old decide where he or she should go to HS. They'll just follow their friends. They can pick college. I get to pick HS.

If it makes you feel better, it’s not just a New Orleans thing. That mindset is pretty entrenched even in Vermilion parish (VC, looking at you).

Yeah... I was in one of the first few years after the unofficial merger with Mercy (they closed in 92)

Wife and I went to public school. Our kids can pick the school they want to attend when they are of age.

Jesuit guys were the WORST and to this day I know so many grown adult Jesuit graduate pricks.

I went to a Catholic school in NOLA and I would not push it on my kids. I also won't push LSU just because I went there either. I agree that it is odd to determine that so far in advance, because your kid may not have the personality for certain schools. I bet some of the people saying that now about their 1st grader don't stick to it when they get to 8th. But sadly some will.

If my kids goto the same school I did I’ve made a lot of bad financial decisions between now and then.

This is really just a Nola thing.

But things change over time. When I had told my mom I had friends from Jesuit, she looked at me like what? That's not a good school and full of yats.

Granted my mom was in hs 30 years prior to this.

Well, I guess your definition and my definition of 'right' are completely different.

Yep, they do. My daughter and tons of girls are choosing Chapelle over Dominican and Mt Carmel this year due to some big changes in the last 10 years. Was a different school in the 90s.

Because they’re kids. And kids don’t make the smartest decisions.

I went to Holy Cross. My brother, brother in law, 4 cousins, father, and 4 uncles went to Holy Cross. We all had Mr Crosby as an instructor and all ate lunch in the huddle. It kills me inside that I live in North Louisiana and can’t send my 2 boys to HC. It just means more.
