Great guy. Serving as an officer of the law and doing his civil duty serving on a jury. More Americans should be like this man.

Whether it's fair or not is a valid argument, but it doesn't really matter. Do you really think that a grand jury wouldn't hand out the indictments anyway? Grand juries will indict anything.

Grand juries only have the power to indict. They decide if there is enough evidence to try someone for a crime. Anyone they indict must be convicted in a criminal trial before being punished. There is no way he would be allowed as a juror in a criminal trial.
While it doesn't seem like the best possible way to administer justice, I do not think his serving on the grand jury impairs anyone's right to a fair trial.

The cornerstone of our judicial system is an impartial jury, both a grand jury and a trial jury. Putting this detective on the grand jury is a slap in the face of that concept.
Think of it like this. Let's say you are accused of murdering one of your neighbors. Your case goes before the grand jury and heading that grand jury is the victim's brother. Would you have any issues with them being on that grand jury?
