I knew it was getting bad but I was on hold for 30 minutes and not one person answered the phone. I finally gave up. 30 minutes seems excessive. Hell even AT&T can make it to the phone in usually 15 minutes.

I feel bad for the vets who are suicidal and call the damn phone number

The VA uses its customer service line as a suicide hotline?

You gotta know when to call. Mornings are always the worst.

Call mid day or late afternoon and you should get right through. What’s your question, baw?

When I did rotations through VA hospitals as a student it was so depressing. On the provider end, they have a very difficult time attracting quality physicians due to the crappy (relatively speaking) pay.

IF I could make the decision in a vacuum, I'd close the VA and have all vets go to local docs/hospitals with no out of pocket costs whatsoever......we'd save billions everyfrickingyear.

Before anyone get their panties in a wad I'm retired AF (yeah almost military )

The phone systems are crap. I do, however, like my primary doctor and nurses.

Dentists on the other hand...the lady in charge of VA dentistry for Louisiana lied straight to my face many times.

THIS! I've never understood why we have a gov't controlled healthcare system for our vets. They should just get healthcare vouchers.

for real - it is the frickign worst.

my dad had an exam done, and they sent him a letter with the results, and said to contact his VA person to discuss.

he called and they set him up for a meeting 2 months later. well the concerning part of the paper was that they mentioned potential Cancer. so he called them and they told him he had to wait the 2 months before they would speak with him.

long story short it wasn't cancer, thankfully, but it was bewildering to me that they would make him wait 2 months to discuss what they said was potential Cancer - their excuse was that the wrong terminology was put on the paper - but never told him that.

was a long 2 months of waiting - never been to both ends of the emotional spectrum like that.

I have been calling to try to get a copy of records... Busy tone for 45 mins. With that being said, some nice strides are being made with Ebenefits. A confirmation #

Or require congress to use the VA exclusively. No private doctors or hospitals.

That shite would get fixed quick.

My cardiologist changes every year. It's a fellow student from Tulane each time. After having major heart surgery and I'm only in my 30's this is very concerning. I also caught hep C during my heart surgery at the VA in Houston 2 years ago. It's been a disaster.

Reaching them by phone is a nightmare.

However, I've been using the VA for several things over the past 2 years and I've had very good experiences. I guess I'm on the minority on that.
