So who do we owe this money too? Ourselves? How could a sovereign country be in debt to itself?

I see you've set aside this special time to humiliate yourself in public.

Interest to who? The govt?

Every large corporation on the planet owns treasury securities.

But even when it’s government to government, how does that change anything? If random government agency (as opposed to Amazon) “owns” a t-bill, interest is still being paid and it’s not fantasy money. It is your tax dollars. Again, there is a line item in the budget for it and the bigger the debt, the bigger that line item will be.

It’s disappointing the amount of people in this thread who truly believe it is the government’s job to provide employment.

That is not and has never been a duty of government.

You are *harming* productivity if you hire 2 people to do the job one person could do.

It’s basic economics

Ask current fed employees.
They have unlimited OT.

In a vacuum, a 10% reduction in federal workforce absolutely saves money

But that isn’t the most important positive externality of federal workforce fine-tuning

As we saw in the 90s, federal layoffs free up labor that can then go towards growing private sector industry

The dot com and tech boom of the 90s was fueled in part by Clinton’s federal workforce reduction. A lot of those folks were in military tech, and they went on to work for booming tech industry

This thread has been a good reminder of how so many Trump supporters are completely brainwashed.

This is a guy who has now been president for over 6 of the last 10 years and they still don't want him to take any blame for this country's problems.

He's an embarrassment to this great country and all they can do is make excuses for him like the easily manipulated, feeble minded cucks they are.

If they had any self awareness, they'd be embarrassed for thinking and feeling how they do for the president. One of the most American things that we can do is be skeptical of the president and call them out on their bullshite. These people aren't true patriotic Americans, they're Trump cucks.

ETA - he's now responsible for over 20% of this country's massive debt. Nothing about this president makes America great. It makes him and his friends a lot of money, though.

That's a pittance compared to the $50B that was going to USAID.

That's just part of the $50B. The money is still being sent out there just isn't a department monitoring or managing it.

There was no reduction in spending. It has only increased.
