That specific series that’s being removed has not increased 78% since Sept. 2023. The actual average price has been falling.
Where was the outrage in 2010 over these coffee prices?
Also, series get removed, updated, etc all the time in the BLS. I doubt you’ll find an old typewriter listed in it, but you’ll find a computer.

CPI is fake until it runs hot confirming my bias but it’s still understated when it does

Actually, that is the one that is remaining the one that is being removed is:
Series ID 717312 Coffee, 100%, ground roast, 13.1-20 oz. can, per lb. (453.6 gm)
I think I figured out why. I went through the hundreds of canisters of coffee listed on Walmart and only 3 of them were within 13.1 and 20 ounces the vast majority were larger and some were smaller. One of the ones I found was a chicory blend which doesn't count anyway and 2 were expensive specialty products that wouldn't be used either. I think the reality is that coffee is rarely sold in cans of that size anymore assuming Walmart is a reasonable representation of the market. Not the API is very specific so for example 16oz bags would not be used in the above series.

Never believe any number put out by the gov't. It's all lies. Anyone that pay bills knows that inflation has sky rocketed recently. And the prices go up, and never come down.

Nonsense. That isn't what Stout's thread implies.

This is incorrect. The removal is a specific package size from the API, Coffee, 100 percent, ground roast, all sizes, per lb. (453.6 gm) remains in the API and coffee remains in the CPI. The screen grab in the tweet clearly says the API and does not mention CPI.
I can’t believe how many people glossed over that. These are the kind of people that are allowed to vote

You know why they glossed over it.

Coffee is not being removed from the CPI inflation data. This discontinuation only applies to “100% ground coffee only in 13.1 - 20 oz. cans” which is no longer sold in a majority of markets and which data was last published for in 1988. Other coffee goods are still reported

I think the tweet was posted before the community note, and since it's an imbed and not a SS, it's changed since OP was posted.

Yep, missed the roast and weight. Doesn’t matter. Doesn’t fit the narrative. And LMAO at everyone getting up in arms over a series that hasn’t been reported in decades.

Only because it was called out for being misleading/an outright fabrication.
It was intended to catch fish. It caught Stout, and then Stout caught his limit.

You didn't respond to anyone. You just made a general statement in regards to what was said in the thread.
