Woodstock '94 was a hard cry from the peace and love 25 years prior. Case in point is THIS VIDEOof Green Day's set, where about halfway through (18 minutes) the show devolves into a mud slinging mosh pit, with the band attempting to play while dodging fistfulls of mud hurled at them, as well as the dozens of crazed fans who made it on the stage.

It ultimately ends when Billy Joe Armstrong asking the crowd if they want Green Day to shut up, and then convincing the crowd to yell "Shut the frick up" and after they do it loudly, the band walks off the stage

ETA: The whole video is good but the mud starts at 18 minutes

Meh not really. He was pretty much playing with the crowd the entire time. It was all in good fun.

It was way worse. 1994 wasn't that bad.

Metallica played a killer set as well in '94.

Agree w/ others...all in good fun

Billie Joe had a blast that day, but actually bassist Mike Dirnt broke a jaw or collarbone or something when a security guard pummeled him thinking he was a fan

Should be visible at the end of the video

99 was the real shite show . There was a gang rape in the mosh pit along with many other sexual assault allegations, they ran out of water, Porta potties were overflowing and eventually people were rolling them over and sending shite and piss everywhere, a mercant booth was set on fire and there was at least one death maybe more. That's just what I can remember. Probably missing some stuff.

ETA: got curious so I did some reading. The water fountain lines were so long some people busted the watermain to get around the lines which led to the huge mud pits and infamous mud fights. Also, they set a damn audio tower on fire during RHCP. ATMs were broken into, merch tents were raided then set on fire. They had to bring in riot police. Apparently, there were two gang rapes of female crowd surfers, one during Limp Bizkit and one during Korn.

Absolute disaster.

I just remember Fred Durst saying, "It's not our fault" with a bewildered look on his face.

Because of this thread, I just watched a little of Kid Rock's Woodstock 99 performance.

I miss the 90s.

Yeah, 94 wasn't all that bad. 99 was so bad it killed 2019.

That's pretty bad.

I remember people crowd surfing on plywood with a bunch of fires going during Limp Bizkits set. Maybe “Break Stuff” wasn’t the right thing to play at the moment.

If this is true, what a shite show. I have heard stories about women being violated while crowd surfing. Wasn’t really sure how true it was. But, when you have that many young people in such a local area, it attracts predators. I bet it happened in ‘69; young, pretty and naive girls looking for sexual freedom? What could go wrong?

Traffic - Rock and Roll Stew - Woodstock '94

See above, skip to 2:35 and NSFW. I know this because I was listening to this at work one day and had it up on one of the monitors. It has somehow flown under youtube's radar lol.
