Some real serious charges. Rumor mill in Hattiesburg saying the feds aren't finished. If you have spent any time in Hattiesburg, you know this was as long time coming.

Also, his actions are a primary reason one of the most talented running backs of all time is now driving a truck to make a living.

Gimme a cliffs on that. I just read all the Wiki on Dupree and the charges on Fairley. Did he play a role in Dupree's abrupt transfer to USM?

A quote from the great Barry Switzer

Switzer took ownership of his mistakes before speaking to a crowd at the Athens Country Club, but he didn’t hold back when asked if the film got it right.

“Hell no they didn’t,” he said. “They produced it the way they wanted. It pisses me off in the Marcus Dupree documentary, that’s the one that upset me, Kenneth Fairley, the black minister that was his agent, absconded five million dollars from him and Marcus sued him for five million, but that wasn’t in the damn documentary. That pissed me off. If I had known they were going to do that I wouldn’t have done the interview with them. I was honest with them. I buried it and said the mistakes I made and regretted. There were no winners, we were all losers in that son of a bitch, but I’m going to tell you when they left that out it pissed me off. That was wrong because they didn’t divulge to the public what happened.”

Here's an article from 1987 about the lawsuit: LINK

Not surprised to see these tax payer funded organizations in this article:

Housing and Urban Development (HUD)
Community Housing Development Organization
Pine Belt Community Services Organization
Neighborhood Improvement and Community Education Foundation

Wonder how many of his congregation believe the man is out to get him? POS shite was basically stealing from poor people. Hopefully they send the guy to a prison like Marion,Ill and not some club fed.

There's a guy in most every small town, generally not white, who uses these funds to make money for himself while providing sub standard, crime infested housing for "their people" while looking like a hero.

I know the one in my hometown. It is a widely known "secret" about how he got his money that he flaunts so regularly and shamelessly.

What's the deal with all that? The link didn't really have any info on Fairley's involvement.

Eta- I see. Should have read a few more posts.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but he stepped in right when Dupree said he wasn't happy (or said he wasn't getting enough playing time) at OU. Ken decided that it was in Dupree's best interest to transfer to USM to be closer to his family. When he gets there they find out he can't play football that season because he will need to sit out due to the transfer rule. So Ken decided he needed to go pro and quit school. But the NFL had an age requirement at that time. So he signed with the New Orleans Breakers of the USFL. Dupree never saw a dime of that money. Ken received every check and if Dupree wanted some of his money, he had to ask Ken's permission. He eventually did play in the NFL but it was several years later.

The documentary was very misleading. The good rev had stepped in long before that. He put it to Texas before Dupree decided on OK. Too bad Marcus was too dumb to get as far away from him as he could.

Yeah, I've watched that one so many times but I can never remember when exactly he came in the picture.

That is one of my favorite 30 for 30s

They didn't really say it in the show, but from people in coaching circles I was told that Fred Akers (Texas) lost quite a bit of cash over the deal. That's why they were so shocked with the sudden decision to decommit. Don't know if it's true or not, but wouldn't doubt it. You know it had to go to the reverend if so.
Sorry piece of trash.
