This is the real problem with declining tips.

15% of $12.93 is $1.93. Are we tipping based off the tax too?
So if you want to tip 15%, what you have to do is calculate the sum of x=1 to infinity of .15^x and tip 17.6%.

I fricking hate to tip. I would much rather my meal just be 20-25% more than to deal with the pressure of tipping.
I get the counter-argument that the wait staff might be less attentive if they don't get tips.

I have a pretty big issue with being prompted to tip before services are even rendered.
Case in point: Pizza Hut

that subway asks for a tip now
I don't consider the person making my sammich a tippable worker. Now if there is a waiter/waitress involved that brings me said sammich and keeps my glass full so I don't have to do it, give them a tip. Our Subway around here doesn't provide that service.

I just don’t tip for those untraditional types of tipping transactions.
In the long run it will help that employee. Employers will use this as a way to try and justify paying them less eventually.

The service at low to medium end restaurants would be awful

don’t mind tipping two or three dollars at a fast casual place, but I’m not tipping 20 percent
3 bucks is 20% of 15...how much more are you paying for "fast and casual"?

I wish more places were like brew bachers or George’s.
No waitstaff at all.
I can get my own drink for the machine or go to the bar and get a couple beers. Heck, i will even throw away my own trash and set my plates in a designated area just to pay a flat rate

If we are being honest, it is already probably pretty awful.

I don’t mind tipping anyone that is willing to work and actually show engagement right now

Exactly. When I go to a restaurant, it seems like everything is taken into account with the menu prices....rent, insurance, food cost, cooks' wages, electricity, etc. All added except service cost for some reason. Why not just add it into the menu price? When I go to a restaurant, I want to order food, eat, pay for it. I'm not there to determine the cost of the service. That's the restaurant's job and it shouldn't be on me.
Seems like every industry got it down...you go to change a tire, service is included on the listed price. Same for flower shops, same for a pharmacy. But for some reason, it's too hard for the food industry.

My wife is a bartender at a pretty popular craft beer and high end burger joint. The local infinity/acura dealership made a $300 take out order.
They insisted that each burger and fry order be individually bagged and labelled with the name of the person who it was for.
My wife, as the bartender also puts together take out orders. It may not seem like it, but what they asked for creates a good deal more work for her, and also caused her to neglect her bar guests.
For all her effort, they tipped her a grand total of 0%. Infinity of Baton Rouge, you suck. If you cant see your way clear to tip, especially when making a bunch of extra work for the person preparing it, then go to fricking McDonald's.

Maybe your wife should get a real job.

Maybe you should take you and your fatass wife to McDonald's. Or better yet, come meet me at Sonic, you little bitch. That way you can stuff your cocksucker with some cheap burgers after I stomp a mudhole in your arse.

This is the system we have, and they asked her for an extra service not listed, and apparently expected it for free, which makes them cheap, and they should be ashamed of themselves.

The thing that irritates me about tipping is the percentage. A Waffle House waitress works just as hard if not harder than a Ruth’s Chris waitress but probably makes 10% as much.
If I order a cheap bottle of wine I pay you $3 to open it but if I order a really nice bottle the waiter gets $20-30? Does my steak take more effort to bring to the table than an order of Mac and cheese? If not, why is the tip $10 instead of $2?
This is honestly why we tend to go to fast casual places more often than not. The food is the same quality as sit down places and ends up costing half as much out the door. I can get my own drinks.
