this should make you think if you have kids....
it's pretty clear where shite is heading. I can't imagine how bad it will be for middle class folks in 35 years

this. pussy is way cheaper to rent.

It is only an impending catastrophe because of the metric ton of old people from the boomer generation who need to be supported.

I don’t see how there is a direct correlation between population reduction and distribution of wealth?

That’s a true story .
What you described, this ‘American Dream’[tm], this nuclear family “ideal”- is mostly a fantasy pushed by media and pop culture .. It doesnt really work out that well for most guys, and they end up trapped emotionally and financially .

Unless society as a whole does a massive paradigm shift in the way we think of ourselves, our past, present, and future the best we can likely hope is that AGI just lets us come along for the ride. Currently it appears we have about 4-5 more generations of optimum opportunity. I do not think creating AGI is inherently bad for us, but if we do not tailor it specifically for our needs so that we might preserve what makes us human, there's potential run-ins.
If society ultimately decides to bootstrap for an AI civ, and homo sapiens go the way of neanderthals, I trust that its a logical step, but we need to go carefully with AGI until we determine how best to move forward. Space is extremely hard on biology. I think we are served best as a species if AGI is able to figure out the space problem long before we write ourselves out of the story, or we Bulterian Jihad the AGI(both options bad) Either way, we will likely know in just a few more years where our likely trajectory is heading. I hope for physics that allow humanity other places to move to. It will be interesting to see where the ball lands between AGI/humanity and the tradeoffs. Right now, its calling for extreme obesity and lack of critical thinking skills in humans, but I suppose that's okay if the AGI is making up for our losses

Our birth rates are down because our marriage rates are down. Our marriage rates are down for a myriad of reasons, but a really big one is that a lot of men have realized how horrifically slanted divorce and custody courts are towards women.

A declining population will be good long term but be very painful for about 40 years. Think Europe during the plague. Sucked that half the population died off but the ones remaining prospered greatly.
