True. It was just getting past the childish name calling part too. I thought we might actually have something happening here.

I am from alabama and now live in California. I kind of understand the southern hate for us. I think California should be a separate country. Our electoral votes outweigh most of the south so our choices get forced on a conservative area that has fundamental objections to much of our legislation
This made my brain hurt.
I do find it odd that so many people from the South, many of whom have never visited CA, feel the need to frequently express their hate for the land and people there, and complain about all the laws in CA that have no effect on them. It's puzzling.

Thank you. That mindset is all I'm trying to understand.

Laws that don't affect us?
Like Nancy Pelosi and Henry Waxman running roughshod over the Constitution up there in Washington? Who keeps voting those bitches into office?
Oh, thats right. Our more intelligent cousins in CA. Yeah, yeah... Poli Board. They started it.

There's a lot of things to like about Cali, but I just hate the government and taxes of that state.

I have been taxed more in NC than CA or MN. Fricking dog tax, personal auto tax, bus tax.
Then again I am in Chapel Hill which is pretty much the most liberal city outside of Berkeley. I am a born Minnesotan, but have spent time in SD County and now in the Triangle. They all have good and bad qualities. I wish CA had better gun laws, and wasn't so auto dependent, otherwise, San Diego is likely where I will be heading back to. NC has good places, especially West Carolina, but it's humid, and if you aren't used to the pace, it's a slower lifestyle, which isn't for everyone. Minnesota is obvious, it's cold as shite.
And it seems like too many visitors of LA forgot that it's a big town, and it looks nothing like what TV makes it. Stick to the beach next time you all visit. Nothing awesome about the inland.

Would move out there tomorrow if it wasn't so expensive. Politics be damned.

I have never been to California, so I try not to judge. But here are my main problems with it and why I could never live there:
1) Absolutely ridiculous gun laws
2) Astronomical income tax rate
3) The 55 electoral votes that you can color a permanent shade of blue.

IMO there is NOT another state in the country that you can do so much in and has such a huge impact on the countrys economy... Maybe FLA... Its just way to expensive for most......

California is beautiful although it does have its problems. I was born and raised in Louisiana and after having lived elsewhere for the past decade, Louisiana is a shithole. Trust me on that. Although I still love it and it will always be home.

Problems Louisiana wishes they had.....

Yes it is... The two so called great cities have gone to crap... New Orleans after Katrina and BR after Katrina... The crime in both cities is horrible... LSU aside Baton Rouge has ALOT of unsafe places, even before Katrina but way worse after.... New Orleans after Katrina turned into a turf war of many gangs... Sad.....
Cali has a ton of bad places but overall I would love to live there. But Oregon or Washington would be 1st on my list.

California is a very important state.

You know, like CA gun laws, their taxation rate, hunting regs, etc. That doesn't affect you in BTR.

Pelosi and Waxman are both in the minority party in the House. They can't pass shite unless your Republican majority allows it.
Try again.

There are places in the Central Valley indistinguishable from places in Texas.
My statement about many of the people being vain comes from my friend who lives in the Central Valley (Sacramento) and travels all over that area for work.
I understand it may not apply to everyone but that is his opinion after living there for 6 years.
He sticks around for the outdoor recreation that is available. And that is why I visit as often as I can.

I'd move to California in a New York minute if it didn't have the most oppressive, burdensome state government in the country (though Illinois and NY make a strong case for the title).
Not that there are many good state governments. New Hampshire, the Dakotas, Wyoming, and Montana are decent enough.

The taxes are high. Trust me I just got my w-2 and I got bent over on taxes. It's worth paying the higher taxes when you realize how amazingly beautiful the Bay Area is. In any given day I can go to the coast, Tahoe, Yosemite, and one of the greatest cities in the world. I'll pay a higher tax to live in an area where people all over the world save up to spend a week.
