Pagan this and pagan that....... Hell almost everything we do is rooted in so called "paganism"! Hell even the days of the week and the months are named after pagan gods.

I don't recall Jesus telling his disciples to trick Pagans or to make it an easy transition for them to baby step away from their sin, call it Jesus' birthday so that they don't have to feel bad about it. I'm sure Jesus loves having pagan traditions used to celebrate his birth, which isn't really his birthday.

Like it or not that’s how many Europeans were converted to Christianity. They were trying to supplant the prior belief systems of massive groups of people. And many times people didn’t really have a choice. If their ruler decided that’s what they wanted, than that was that. I’m not saying it was right but that was a large part in how Christianity spread throughout the world.

The church has been "borrowing" pagan traditions since it's inception to convert people. I don't think many people today realize that the church and state were the same thing in most of the world and in order to make the church taxing the people more palatable they would celebrate the pagan holidays with some rebranding. Just look at all the not Halloween Halloween celebrations in church parking lots... it still happens.

Regardless of your belief, if you can't see the pagan traditions in the church you are blind.

All the pagan holidays seem awesome anyways

I’d be down with bringing them back

You can't really force conversion, only compliance.

No you can’t force true belief. But you can slowly over generations ensure that this new belief is the main one while the older beliefs die out. How else do you think that the majority of Europeans were at one point pious Christians?

I’m not perfect and I’ve never claimed to be. I’m a heathen that relies on the grace and mercy of God for all my shortcomings and there are a lot!

If you want to celebrate Christmas, go ahead, it’s your choice and I have no problem with it. I give my opinion on Christmas and why I decided to stop celebrating in order to show others how Christmas has been hijacked and has very little to do with Jesus.

You can't put old wine into new bottles. Simply borrowing pagan traditions and applying them to Christianity doesn't make them die out, rather it gives them new life. Most modern Christians don't know why they are performing the rituals like they do. They know the fables and traditions they've been taught and will defend them, but do they even know why?

My people are killed for lack of knowledge.

If they studied the Bible would they find doctrine supporting their traditions? No! Much like the Pagans who didn't want to give up Saturnalia, Christians don't want to give up Christmas because it's fun, so they lie to themselves and say it's all for the glory of Jesus. Look around and tell me Jesus would feel honored by the gluttony of Christmas.

2 Peter 1:16
16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

Many Christmases ago, I went to buy a doll for my son. I reached for the last one they had, but so did another man. As I rained blows upon him, I realized there had to be another way.

I’m arguing why Dec 25th was chosen. It was done for conversion purposes. It worked as in majority of Europe became Christian. I’m not arguing about what Christianity is today or what the other celebrations are about.

What about you? Do you wear a wedding ring or are you this legalistic about everything that was taken from traditions that weren't explicitly Christian?

It's not like all pagans went away and all Europeans became Christians. There are still pagans around today.

Eventually in Europe the pagans went away and became Christians. Any self proclaimed pagans in Europe today have no real continuous link to the ancients.

Right? These "Christians" who are so judgmental about Christmas are absolutely hypocrites. 100%. They aren't trying to save Christianity or help people see the truth, they're just trying to get attention.

You do realize the early Christians were eating meat that was literally sacrificed to pagan gods and the Bible explicitly states that’s fine to do as long as you could do it in good conscience. I have a feeling you’d be pretty pissed at Paul if you were around back then.

You actually believe the fricking bible?

It's all allegory with the possible exception of the Gospel. Even that has been passed down orally, written, translated, edited and re-edited many times. It is now what we THINK Jesus would have said......

Take a break bible thumper.
