You need to travel the US more. Don't believe the hype. I live in the south by choice.

Had the opportunity to transfer and negotiated to be able to stay and still get the new job.

My quality of life here is better than it would be in almost 90% of other places.

Enough said

This isn't a Democrat vs Republican issue. People forget that populations within the states aren't all the same. The south isn't representative of Republicans, the majority of Republicans do not live in states that connect to the Gulf of Mexico.

The best indicator of republican vs democrat probably boils down to big city vs rural area.

Your chart only proves my point. Michigan, Missouri, Maryland, California, Ohio are all states with better education than Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi etc

I imagine a lot of wealthy black folks like in the D.C. Area in Maryland and in California. They don't have Culcha.

Actually no, for the upper middle class its probably one of the best areas to live nationally.

You get a good salary with regards to cost of living, and because the federal income tax doesn't change state to state you end up paying less than someone who has the same standard of living in a higher cost of living area.

Still proving my point. You realize why the south generally has a cheaper cost of living right?

I’m not talking out of my arse, I’ve been to many places and I grew up in the south.

Irrelevant, if you're in the upper middle class you're enjoying a high salary, low cost of living, and low taxes.

Sure, other states have higher pay to adjust for their higher cost of living, but the feds do not care. If you make 100k in Louisiana you pay the same federal income tax as you do making 100k in California.

From a financial standpoint, so long as the Federal Income Tax rate doesn't adjust for cost of living, and so long as you have a good paying job, the south isn't at the bottom of the list with regards to how much expendable income you have.

No it’s not. And your upper middle class theory is bull shite. The south is enticing to one-hundred thousandaires joint income, not upper middle class.

The Landmass doesn't have very much culcha either (the Landmass is the Coast, not the entire state).

BR is quite legit for someone who is a so-called single hundred thousandaire. Cost of living is low and we're getting a Top Golf

With regards to my specific point, unless a lower cost of living is factored into Federal Income Taxes then no. It is objectively not a factor with regards to Federal Taxes and cost of living.

While these terms are defined differently, there's not a huge variance.

For example: Pew Research Poll defined Middle class as between 42,000 and 125,000.

quote:

Lower-income households had incomes less than $42,000 and upper-income households had incomes greater than $125,000

- Pew Research

The term "upper middle class" would effectively be the upper end of that range, say 100-125k.

By their own definitions, which aren't outliers in economics, "hundred thousandaires" are absolutely "upper middle class".
