Anybody who lives in Monroe nowadays is a frickin idiot

i grew up in the ridge ave/splane drive area of w.m. last of the parents died recently and we're cleaning out their house. SWMBO said, you know, we could sell everything in b.r. and i can sell mine out off strozier. we could live here cheap and retire now.

everything about it sounded great, until i remembered we were in West Monroe.

Lol, I’ve read this entire thread, just like I did when it was originally posted.

I wish Monroe could return to what it used to be. Friday Ellis, over at Governor’s, along with a handful of others are doing their best to revive the place.

I'm from Rayville but spent all my "formative" years in Monroe but both were damn good wholesome places to grow up w/ alotta "trim" and partying and I took as advantage as I could for a geeky 150lb awkward teen. Jeez those "MunnRow" chicks were like something outta Fast Times At Ridgemont High to a cotton field kuntry boy. They had the HUGE light brown/blonde hair and some "went all all way"..unfortunately it wasn't w/ me.

I remember walking around Pecanland listening to the christmas music and smelling all the food at the food court. The Muffin Tin always made this spiced tea that really smelled like Christmas. The week before Christmas the mall was so packed on Saturday afternoon they had cars w/ plates from Arkansas & Mississippi parked in the grass where now sit the motels. I remember when Pecanland really was a pecanland back in '79. Its a shame the way they've let pecan farm just fall apart. There used to a water fountain people would stop at back in the 40's in the middle of farm right beside hwy 80.

Whoever said the ArkLaMiss fair was incredible was understating the fact. I was friends w/ the owner of the Conoco station across from the police station and he charged like $20 to park in his lot and made like $1,000 during the week of the fair. Remember the elephant ears and the Tilt-a-Wirl or Himalaya?

Well, when I was 15 I ended up at a party at some girls apartment that went to LSU. One of the girls was asking me where I went to school and I said Northeast. She thought I meant NLU, but I went to Northeast High School. I didn't tell her any different and let her draw her on conclusions. By the end of the night, she'd contrived this entire story about me bing a boy wonder genius and being a freshman in college at 15. Lets just say it ended very well for me that night.

That's the only NLU memory I have.
