Wow, ifs that's actual stone and not faux stone on the gate, then that is top notch work for S. La and most likely cost a good bit, as there are jackshit for stone Masons in S. La

You would think someone with money could hire an architect to build something that doesn’t look like a McMansion cut-and-pasted to a desired sqft.

That is one ugly, unsymmetrical house.

Man is there a lot of envy in this thread. Sure, it could have been designed better but come on guys.

I talked with the architect who designed the Pennington house and he said that from an architectural standpoint, the Old Perkins House is a great example of terrible symmetry.

Bad ROI, IMO. He’ll want to downgrade in a few years and take a big hit like the Pennington lady.

I think you are spot on. The upkeep on a place like that gets exhausting. It will require at least a couple of full time employees for inside and outside plus there will always be something needing to be fixed in a few years. Not to mention, how much of that house would you even use? Even for large parties it seems like much of the house wouldn’t be used.

It’s awful but it actually does look better with the landscaping in.

Isn't that the house where the dude killed himself inside while it was being built? Pretty sure there was like a dispute between the guy building the house and one of the contractors or supervisors or something. Some sort of windows were installed improperly or something, and the builder wanted the guy to tear down the entire wall or wing of the house and reinstall them maybe.

The GC shot himself in his truck early one morning in the driveway outside the house. He was having issues at home and the stress of this particular job was too much for him apparently. As for the windows, they were not even installed at the point he killed himself.

FYI - Golfers playing Santa Maria refer to it as The Hobbit House.
I’m sure a lot of money went into the place but it’s not my style.
My hats off to the guy for being that financially successful, though.

It’s possible, I guess. There’s a guy down the street from me who has spent $3.5mm on a 4,000ft house built in the 1940’s, in Shreveport. He “finishes” it, then starts something else. They’ve had workers there constantly for 3 years. It now has a copper gazebo thing, insane driveway, etc. The house might sell for 800k if put on the market. Some people don’t know when to quit. Or who to hire.

Also: house in OP is McMansion hell. At least the Pennington house had a coherent design. If I’m spending $3mm+ in BR I’m calling Al Jones.

Plans came from an Architect out of Miami.
You think the outside looks bad, go inside. The plan is full of wasted space and the simitry is all out of whack. Round rooms, chopped up walls, random sized closets. Every ceiling has a different recessed feature. Some have an eyebrow arch and some a full segmented arch. Not sure if it’s been fixed but the covered walk that goes to the outdoor kitchen/living/apartment terminates into a wall that’s adjacent to the pantry. Someone fricked that up.

After spending some time in this house it’s as if Ray Charles sharpened his pencil and went to drawing.
