The yearslong effort to redevelop the former Six Flags amusement park in New Orleans East took a major step forward Wednesday as the 227-acre property was formally turned over to Bayou Phoenix, the local group selected to tackle the ambitious project.

Henry's plan is to turn the blighted property into a sprawling complex of water parks, youth sporting facilities, two hotels, an 8.5-acre clear lake for swimming, a movie studio, amphitheater, retail outlets and other amenities.

And while the group hasn't yet secured funding or partners to operate the attractions, Henry and city officials said signing the lease was an important step in the process of eventually bringing the area back to life.

If any of this happens or anything happens to this property at all, I’ll personally jerk off everyone in this room.

I’ve always wanted to stay in a hotel in New Orleans East and go to the water park the next day.

A clear lake in the East for swimming? I’d rather swim in city park lake

It’s amazing how they keep the story alive that this site has a chance in hell of ever being developed into anything close to the pie in the sky ideas they talk about

Noted.

But seriously, I can't imagine enough people going in that area now for anything big to succeed with how bad crime has gotten out that way (not that it was paradise when Jazz Land was first built, but things got even worse over time).

This is pie in the sky BS and someone is about to lose a bunch of money. There is only one thing to do with that site: Return it to nature.

The city already put $1M towards this scam, and they are asking for another $10-15M of taxpayer money.

I’m wondering if they can relocate the Lacassine waterpark to the outdoor waterpark facility?
