You are claiming a majority of US vets are telling you, they don't have an issue with disrespecting the flag.

Yet a majority of people, including vets seem to be offended.

What about Thomas Jefferson and Roger Taney?

Symbols are enormously important to people. Burning a flag, bible, or koran does no personal harm but is reliably interpreted as a personal attack by those who hold those objects sacred. The concept of sacred objects is a major part of personal and group identities for enormous numbers of people.

So, to answer the OP another way, because the people who hold symbols of country sacred feel personally and collectively insulted. An ideal they believe to be enormously important is being disparaged as without value.

That part is kind of ironic, if you look at it objectively.

There was a time where the flag of our nation, and the nation itself was seen as a beacon of hope for a better life. People paid the ultimate price to protect the freedoms of it's citizens.

Now, we are seen by our own citizens as a nation of people who think patriotism and justice are relics of an era gone by and no longer applicable to their lives.

If the kneeling wasn't offending anyone, it would be the worst protest ever.

Or am I wrong?

And yet you’re still missing the point of what I am saying.

How about we both use one of our rights in this great country and ignore each other and go on with our lives.

We play the National Anthem before every event we conduct in the US Army. I'd like to see you take a knee or not stand during one of them. Consequences would be brutal.

I agree, but I felt united for a while after 9/11. Not sure when it all went downhill? I guess mid 2000's, and the Great Recession didn't help either.
