Cancer alley may well be a myth. I have no idea. Are cancer rates in that area of the state higher than other areas with similarly poor education and comorbidity rates?

No

Literally what is this?

That white people don’t care about environmental issues because they effect black, Brown, and ran people more than white people.

Seriously.

There is real time monitoring on every outfall and that shite is audited like crazy. Daily samples being audited by independent labs.

Do you think we have that because industry just decided it was a good idea, to spend all that money on monitoring?

Or do we have that because there were issues in the past and regulation was enacted to stop it from happening again?

Without a doubt it was forced on them.

In the YouTube video why Louisiana stays poor, they demonstrate that we have the highest income producing company in the state, and some of the highest in the country, which is also in the lowest income ZIP Code of the state. They suggest if they pay the same amount of taxes that that company does in our neighboring states, Texas and Mississippi, those ZIP Codes would have increased health, education, and wealth.

And it’s wrong. If they laid the same amount of taxes they’d be in TX or MS.

There is no doubt about this, but when I see the shite pollution these plants pump out... Go behind the levee when the water is low (which has been years since it was low enough to see) and see the shite that is pumping into the Mississippi river.. I can't help but think that all of that pollution isn't having any type of impact on the environment and anything that is living around it.

What exactly are they pumping into the river Chris? What pollutants are they sending?

Did you know, many chemical plants and refineries send water with lower suspended solids concentration than what’s in the actual river?
Did you know that the total organic carbon released is comparable to what’s naturally in the river?

Right. So I take a hard pass at anything put out by the chemical association, just like I take a hard pass at anything put out by the bucket brigade types.

Plants aren't as safe as the chem plants act like they are, and they aren't as unsafe as the bucket brigade says they are.

I think - in Louisiana - we have found a mostly good place between safety and profits. This is a big reason why we don't have the issues that occur in many less regulated countries.

When absolutely no evidence has been put up to contradict what they are saying it isn't taking their side.

I don't believe them because they say it, I believe what they are saying because of lack of evidence to prove them otherwise.

I have a problem with people painting the area cancer alley and blocking any new development because "it is deadly already."

ACA prior platforms

Smoking is good fir you health
Asbestos a Miracle product can’t hurt u
Cadmium as a food additive
Lead the prefect paint additive
Etc etc etc

They are a criminal organization that would be in Jail in Europe for all the fraudulent studies they masterminded

I wish I could post .10 of what’s covered in all the protective orders that I am stuck with.

They intentionally put chemicals they knew would kill and seriously hurt people into the water table, for decades.

Why do you think Kentwood and abita springs bottled water came into existence. Too many people knew.

It’s not just overall cancer, it is specifically certain cancers and diseases, but who cares.

So just take that cadmium pill daily like they advised years ago and tell me who that works out for you.

There are still studies they paid for that say smoking is great for u too btw. They were never retracted.

Opposing Study

Since the propaganda piece from the OP didn’t bother to research any other stance than that supported by the LA Chemical Association, here’s a study that concludes otherwise.

You must not really work in the industry then. I know a lot of people that got cancer from working in a plant, mainly Lymphoma or lung cancer. I’ve known quite a few that died from cancer as well. These people were healthy people, engineers and such, never smoked, and still got cancer. I don’t work in the industrial field, but know a lot of people who have got cancer from working out there their entire lives.

Cancer Alley is definitely exaggerated for political purposes, but our region definitely increases the risk of people getting cancer because of those chemical plants. Some of you are acting as if these plants emit nothing but CO2, and that it’s healthy to breathe that stuff in.

Investigations in the 1990s found the cancer incidence data was being collected in a way that may conceal the real rate of cancer in areas closest to the chemical plants. The Tumor Registry has repeatedly declined to turn over data that’s more specific than parish-wide averages, even going to court to argue that privacy laws protect information at the Zip code level.

Toxic Truth - WWL

White knighting for some of the worst companies in the world who care nothing about anything but profits.

LINKAgree 100% with previous poster. And btw, why do I know this happened all over Louisiana, because my grandfather was one of people that ordered it done. (Pursuant to his orders from corporate) and he smoked 2 packs of camels a day and lived into his 90s, but that doesn’t prove they aren’t bad for you. He had suspicions and felt bad about it but that’s just how it was until 70s.

Here is a refuting study. took 30 seconds on google
