No Western nation is in the top twenty.

In South Asia specifically, the AQLI believes residents could be losing up to 5 years off their lives. The region has been a global hotspot of air pollution for years, home to 37 of the 40 most polluted cities in the world.

Of this list, I've only been to China. Seeing it only ranks 19th is kinda scary. Smog is pretty rough there in even medium sized cities.

That's because the Indians won't eat them.

We sell many of these countries artificial coal that can't be burned by EPA standards. In the same breath, the same companies that sell this product advertise the production alternative bio fuels and are dedicated to reducing our carbon foot print.

Yet, the USA is supposed to pay punitive damages to these shithole countries for our bad pollution.
That's a big

We just need to do our part and pay more taxes so that Tajikistan stops destroying da earf.

I've been to some of these places....India for sure, UAE and rest of GCC no.
Ghana yes. Pretty much all of West Africa SE Asia is nasty. Russia is going to have big problems with their accumulated industrial waste as will most of former USSR

And absolutely zero chance you get any of them to change their ways, unless you come up with a new clean energy source that is cost effective and sustainable. I'm not sure why we are so hyper focused on cutting emissions here in the U.S. when our focus should be figuring out a better way to do renewable energy, because at some point we will run out of resources.

I went to Egypt in 2010 and I remember seeing piles of garbage on the side of the street 10 feet high and the Nile was full of garbage.

Yet Greta has not been to a single one of them (nor has ANY other climate freak) to protest- what say you Gore and Kerry?

If you look closely, this is specifically gauging PM 2.5, or the very fine (and therefore dangerous) particulate matter. Most smog is generally larger particulates, PM 10, etc. I imagine China would probably rank higher on a more expansive list.

but yea, we're the problem. we're the ones that need to pay to fix it. get fricked

why is it always so bad in those countries?
Why can they not fix it? are they too poor or something?

To piggy back off of my last post, it looks like PM 2.5 tends to come from varying kinds of combustion. This is an article from a few months ago specifically about New Delhi, but also makes reference to a few US cities: LINK
quote:
Road dust and tiny bits of, well, stuff sent into the air by stone processing and other crushing operations are common sources of PM 10 pollutants. You can trace PM 2.5, on the other hand, primarily to combustion—fireplaces, car engines, and coal- or fracked (natural) gas–fired power plants are all major PM 2.5 sources. That’s why the five U.S. cities with the highest PM 2.5 levels are all in car-crazy California. Other problem cities have large coal-fired power plants (Pittsburgh), rely heavily on wood stoves for heat (Fairbanks, Alaska), or are prone to wildfires (Medford, Oregon)

When will everyone realize that everywhere else pretty much sucks.
Yes, its a very arrogant take but its true.
We are just better than every other country at almost everything.

I saw some pics of India in a thread a month or two ago, and it was pretty shocking the amount of filth (and dead bodies) just lying around everywhere. It was disgusting.

8 of the top ten countries are predominantly desert locals. The natural dust probably has something to do with ranking based on a particulate [DUST] standard.
