Why all he hatred for crape myrtles? I just planted 2 in my front yard

I was wondering the same thing. They've all been beautiful this year. They seem to have more flowers.

I have 3 Natchez Whites in my front yard. They're beautiful shaped (pruned each year) and the large leaves are wonderfully colored in the Fall/Winter.

1 word - SUCKERS

If not for the suckers that constantly pop up from the roots they wouldn't be bad. I can deal with the trash they drop, but frick the suckers that pop up.

I visited the in-laws this past weekend in BR and parked under the crape myrtle in their driveway for a few days. I had to go wash the car before we drove back home. It made such a mess with the rain they had

They drop flower petals, leaves, and bark like crazy.

I like mine though. Nice shade. Just need to commit time to cleaning up daily

They're pretty but like someone else said, put them far away and look at them from there.

I like crepe myrtles, how do you hate a tree that grows fast, looks good and is almost impossible to kill. Just don’t be the arse that butchers them by basically cutting all their limbs off in the off season.

Seriously though, here is a small group that’s doing a fairly bland service but at a fraction of what it would cost the government to do it yet we still get jackasses yelling about govt bureaucracy bullshite.

I think I've read that BR has the most trees of any city in the country...idk if true

It is among the highest in terms of canopy coverage, not number of trees. That was pre-Gustav. I'm not sure how it still stacks up.

Tree inventories are used for a city to justify a "Tree City USA" designation. Depending on the state it may provide tax breaks or federal funding to further tree expansion and conservation. It also helps maintain trees on government property in the inevitable injury caused by a falling tree. Help defend against lawsuits, etc.

My last three places all has crape myrtles right by the driveway and/or front door. One being a condo by LSU where I had no authority to cut them down. They're just messy, with the flowers especially getting everywhere and constantly tracked in. I agree with whomever said they are okay along a fenceline where you can just observe and don't have to constantly park and walk under them.

Cutting the one down at our current house is pretty high on my project list.

Oh…. And bean counter positions exist for the very reason I said they do. To give simpletons a job that simply takes time. I’m sorry for my transgressions. Maybe at the next years gala on the rooftop you can come over to my table and tell me how many more trees you counted this year.

Knowing Baton Rouge Green, they're probably using an unpaid or very low-paid team of interns from LSU. Baton Rouge Green does some pretty awesome things for Baton Rouge.

Who hates crepe myrtles? Hate a tree that deserves it like a bradford pear or a tallow tree.

Also, crepe murder is wrong.

I hate any nonnative tree that serves no other purpose than to look pretty.

We bought a house in January. In March, I cut two useless crepe myrtles down. They will be replaced with something native that serves as more than just eye candy.

Frick a damn crepe myrtle.

They could also be classifying the oaks based on specific species as opposed to simply "oak" which dilutes the numbers.

We took down five of them in our backyard last year. I have zero regrets.

Yea I’m slowly trying to rework my yard with exclusively native plants. Non native ornamentals largely are stupid. If you inherent one fine but really wish people would get xenophobic when adding new landscaping.
