Thought I saw something to that effect on a CDC site.
Now I can't find it.

55-60, you're nearing retirement and think at most you have 15 good years left.

My dad passing away in his 50’s was a gut check. Especially now that I am nearing 45 myself. The fact I probably won’t live long enough to enjoy my retirement nest egg is sobering.

I first noticed when the very last of the “old people”…grandparents, great-aunts and uncles and their spouses…finally passed. Now my parents and their siblings (the ones who aren’t already gone) are the new “old people.” Freaky.

I went from needing readers, to buying readers, then occasionally using readers. Now I got the ones that hang in my neck and snap on the bridge. So somewhere in that process.

Every day I wake up I am thankful for another day. Live for today not for tomorrow it makes it much easier. Tell everyone you love that you love them every time you say goodbye. You may not make it another day so if I am dying or am killed in some kind of accident I won't go out wishing I would have told them that I loved them.

Eta: early 50's now I am in great health but honestly I really don't think about dying

If you live to be 100 and youre 50 now you still got 50 more years. That’s a lifetime for some people.

I’m 47 and a guy at Homedepot who was 102, showed me his license to prove it, told me that.

I guess the point is …be positive and according to him, put black pepper on everything you eat.

When I had to have a stint put into my 80% blocked widow maker at 42!! After that I realized life is too short, and why waste it busting my arse working like I had been since I was 14yo!!

Quit my job about 2yrs ago, started my own business, and now make sure I do what I want, and never miss out on time with my family to chase a dollar again!!

About 55. Been scratching all my life and now that my wife’s retired and I’m about to turn 60 I just decided to grab another gear and have as much fun as I can. Just got my first granddaughter and it’s glorious. My son and I just got a new lease and duckblind and are about to have our best year ever (hopefully).

Live life to the fullest.

When my Dad passed away in Nov. 2017 at age 95, I was a month away from reaching 61. At that point I realized that I was now the senior member of my family. I retired early at 62 and have to say you need to try and avoid dwelling on your past, because suddenly you have all this free time and you start to think about things in the past tense. In addition, health issues start to appear, which really makes you aware of your age and vulnerability. Far cry from when I was 20, daring, fearless, felt I would live forever.
But the ultimate wake up call- I am 68, will be a Great-Grandfather in December!! Shocking!

I think of it from time to time lately, my dad is close to 80, but he is doing great despite 3 cancers over the years.. his moms side of the family have good genetics I guess. She was close to 100 when she died, her brothers lived way up there..

It hits me if I see a pic from about 15 years ago. (Im 46now) I had very little grey and weighed less, just looked younger….not to mention my cholesterol keeps creeping up every year, which is expected. My mom has bad cholesterol and eats healthier than I do. It doesn’t help I have more vices than I use to. Craft beer, cigars, bad eating etc.. I do mtn bike and go to the Y when I can …..
But what really depresses me is how time seems to really speed up when I got around 35.. The years are now flying by.. everything seems like a blur now..

I turn 40 this year and I’m starting to think about it more

40 is going to be weird for me. I’m 38 so it’s coming up. So many things I wanted to do that I haven’t done. A lot of those things seem out of reach completely. A lot of things I regret. Worrying that my best days are behind me even though I know the 50 and 60 something’s will say that’s stupid.

I’ve still yet to come close to 2017-2018 (30 and 31 for me), maybe it’s just something you accept.

When talking to my financial planner on how much money I'll need to supplement my retirement. I'm 70 now and want to take some trips. He told me there was a small window where I would be able to take those trips and he wasn't speaking financially.

Yeah, but I think that takes into account all deaths including teens and infant mortality. The stats are much higher if you live past the age of 50.
