Combine that with “Facebook news” and ridiculous click bait articles dominating the internet and it leaves any thinking person in a place of skepticism regarding a reported potential threat or catastrophic

Maybe it’s because the recovery rate is pretty high, unlike what the media would have you believe, that everyone is going to die.

The media is and has been saying for some time that anywhere from .5- 1.5 of people who get the virus is going to die which is what the scientists and statistics from other countries are saying. Simple math tells you when you have 100,000 cases, 1% means 1000 deaths. One million cases = 10,000 deaths.
The media is also saying that those in severe condition need ventilators. Any exceeding ventilator capacity face greater likelihood of death.
No one is saying everyone is going to die. We’re all saying 80% of people will experience (mild) flu like symptoms. And that the the numbers of the 20% are going to all of our medical resources and then some.
It’s really not that hard. Hopefully the stubborn half of board catches up to what people around the rest of the country have been saying for weeks to a month

The media is blowing this out of proportion as well. Look, I'm not saying it's not somewhat serious, but, if you listen to the news channels, you'd think half the world has died from this virus already. It's quite ridiculous.

The media is not putting that belief in my head. And its not about what any of us "believe" The fact is alot of people worldwide are dying from this virus and unlike the flu the experts have no answers. The whole fake media thing is worn out.

This is an excellent point. I struggle to find actual news on the news. It is mostly opinion, Pardon the Interruption-style.
It is the same reason that the weather channel stands outside during hurricanes. Because that is what people pay to watch.
Fox news switched to wall-to-wall coronavirus coverage, because that is what people want to watch.
We can all complain about shitty reality TV and the Kardashians, but people must be watching it, else it wouldn't be on TV.

The overall problem with today's media is too many stories are presented as a crisis or emergency.
News is not presented today without a hard lean to either right or left (depending on news outlet).
Watch some old Walter Conkritem, he just talked as he reported.. now big expressions, no fancy suit, and there wasn't a knock out, sexy, big titty MILF sitting next to him. IMHO

You say this like skepticism is a bad thing. All news should be approached with a bit of skepticism. That skepticism is actually one thing editors consider when running a story.
That said, it hasn't been hard to differentiate the actual news reporting and the sensationalism with this current crisis. Your news source quoting actual CDC and public health experts? Genuine news. Your local media reporting from the grocery store on the availability of toilet paper? Sensationalism.
