I think I counted 20 different stores that sold shoes the last time I was there. No one is saying it is ALL shoe stores but it is a lot.
Lately, I’ve been surprised by how many “no credit needed” shitty jewelry stores have opened. Who buys that stuff?
Between shoe stores, crappy jewelry, and myriad stores that sell only club clothes, the mall is a wreck.

American malls > Israeli malls

Malls are an outdated concept with anchor tenants that are going belly up one by one, but I don’t think Mall of La is in immediate danger.
Anyone here ever been to Pittsburgh Mills?
80% of that place is empty. We walked for well over a mile inside of it without encountering more than a dozen other shoppers.
Pittsburgh Mills isn’t the only dead mall in this area either. A metro of 2.5 million can’t support more than 2 big malls. It’s about 10 years newer than Mall of La too and impeccably well maintained. It’s location isn’t great, but it’s near some pretty affluent northern suburbs - one of the few areas around here that aren’t in decline.
By contrast the last several times I was in Mall of La, it was doing just fine. I would be concerned about what will happen when Sears and Penny’s shut down since they can’t really add more outdoor shops after they build The Boulevard part, but right now Mall of La is definitely above average. It also has no direct competition and no one is stupid enough to build another indoor mall anywhere near it anyway. They can’t even find real estate to build a zoo in Baton Rouge. Mall of La is just about on the perfect spot with its own freeway exit, unlike Cortana Mall.
I made the mistake of going too Mall of La last year during the holiday shopping season and there were too many white women with strollers running around for last minute shopping. I don’t have the patience for crowds of any type anymore. But at least the mall isn’t dead. Far from it.
Give it 10 years and see how they react to Sears and JC Penny closing. While they will probably pull out of GGP malls last, it will eventually happen.
Mall of La already has a theater and Main Event going in, so their options to reuse those anchor spaces are limited. Bloomingdales and Neiman Marcus both are a little above Louisiana’s market, but they might be able to snag one of them (definitely not both) or one of their lower cost brands. Those anchor slots are going to be an issue for Mall of La when Sears and Penny’s eventually go tits up.

It's a ghetto hang out on weekends.

North Jackson?
I haven't been there in about 7 years. The only go to that area for now is the Apple store.

Wouldn't Towne Center be considered competition? It's the open mall format and I guess it doesn't have the anchor stores, but it's got a shite ton of different varieties of shops, many food outlets, etc.

You can check out Cortana Mall on deadmalls.com. That place is on life support. Sad. When I was a teenager in the 80’s that place was the social epicenter of BR. You drive by there now and it looks largely abandoned.
I walked through cortana out if morbid curiosity last week. It’s hilariously empty. Even the soul food place is gone.

Figured that
Not sure how old you are but do you remember the guy with the long hair, he must have been the manager. This must have been late 90’s early 00’s

The mall of LA is decent compared to the Acadiana mall. Now that place is a true wasteland. Go there on a Saturday and see for yourself. Makes the mall of LA look like Beverly Hills.
The Parking lot looks like a Mardi Gras parade route. It’s full of trash people throw out. The inside of the mall is crowded as hell. So many kiosks you can’t even walk.

Mall of LA is nice. I think most of the general complaints are about the changing clientele which I've never really found to be a problem unless you go at 8pm on a Friday night. It will be interesting to see how the Main Event does.
I work off of Bluebonnet so I go eat lunch at the food court and walk around about once per week. Especially during the summer when it's 100 degrees outside.

This website exaggerates everything. I was at mall of Louisiana in June and it was as packed as ever.
What is the reason why people like shitting on things by obviously lying about it to accomplish the goal?

Lafayette has two malls. The one white people used to go to and the other mall white people used to go to.
Sad, really. I remember going to see Santa at the center court when I was a kid right near the fountain and the waterfall. frick that floor, though. Whoever thought "People walking around all day long? COBBLESTONES!" needs to be beaten within an inch of his life, then two more inches for good measure.

Very true. I went in there for a Mother's Day gift at noon on Saturday. I almost ran out of there guarding my purchase. Super ghetto.

I don’t think people said it’s dead meaning no people. More that the stores are quickly becoming crappier and crappier, which is the main sign it’s dying.

My dude, there is so much low hanging fruit to make fun of with malls and you completely swung and missed. 1980s, huh?

Mall of LA not as nice as it used to be for sure but way better than a lot of malls I've been in the past few years. The worst is this flea market trend with obnoxious vendors hounding you everywhere you go.
