I haven’t lived in America for a while, but tbh i dont see how it’s possible for most people in the US to survive in 2025 without at least two jobs.. or in the case of a married couple, 3 or 4 jobs.. just doesn’t seem possible in most of the country .

Lol wut?

It's entirely possible, just depends on the kind of work you do.

I'm salaried (not government) so sometimes I take care of tasks on weekends or early in the morning (like 2 AM) if I can't sleep, this way I'm more flexible during "normal working hours".

Doesn't matter how I spend my time, just have to complete my tasks. The negative to this is there's no one doing my work when I'm on vacation or sick.

Interesting to read the many responses, I will tell you I worked in a local government department for a few years and I LOVE that these federal government employees are being forced back to work.

I was in local government first line management and would work side by side with my crew getting my hands dirty most days. A few recollections that tie back to the topic of this thread:

- There are a handful of local govt/utility employees that are dedicated and work whatever hours are needed to ensure basic services are provided. This is NOT the majority of people on the payroll. Most in the city I worked in were not veterans on a second career, we had a few like that and they were great employees.

- I knew several employees with second jobs, some did okay with it, but there were several that were chronically late, chronically absent, and would try to hide and sleep during their city job work.

- This local government had many bureaucratic jobs, sitting in the office in the AC. I worked with these people on occasion and they were frequently lazy and officious. I can easily see most of them getting a second job, working from home and doing both jobs at the same time.

- HR department in this local city government was not helpful in dealing with the problems caused by second jobs. HR was questionable in doing their due diligence with regards to the forms for second employment; I never saw, nor heard of, a single case of second job employee being followed up on by HR.

All of this to say that looking through the lens of my personal experience in local government, and with the size of the federal government, and the amount of work at home employees now in the federal government, that the fraud and cheating by “work at home” federal government employees is probably even worse than the fraud and abuse seen in the USAID information that is coming out now.

I work with my hands. Can't do my job from the house.

Any time you wanna come to the jobsite, you're welcome to try some man's work.

Do people not understand working in a corporate world isn't like working on a rig or as McDonald's?

I'd venture to say very few people that work in the corporate world truly work 40 hard hours a week. Half their time is spent on nonsense fluff.

I know it is legal but who on active duty has time to work a 2nd job? Are you talking about bar tending sporadically? 20+ years of service and I've never seen this.

Actually not sure that this is true without having express permission to do so.

In any case, if there's a time conflict, what that necessarily means is that they took a second job that requires so much of their time that they cannot do both. Which means they weren't doing their taxpayer funded job.

your description sez your retired.
It says retired FROM THE MILITARY after serving for 31 years. Often times they will live off of their pension while working another job to keep busy/have extra money to enjoy life. Some often get government work that lets them draw two pensions. My grandparents lived comfortably on her pension from working in the schools and from him serving & then working a county job for years.

Like I said before, I called the IRS once and the lady was obviously running a daycare. Took only my very common name and I waited for 15-20 min and she came back and told me "no, its not ready" for my answer. Without my SS number or where I was from. At least ten kids screaming in the background (and her).

They are govt employees too.

With that said, cops, especially beat cops, don't have anything to do each day until something happens.
