BAW Sidenote:
Copper Saturday: I broke out the 915-D3 for first time in a round.... Hole 3...ranged the bunker at 315 from tee. She finally settled about 25 yds past that bunker. The ground fricking shook, I swear it.
ETA: there was a slight tailwind

I don't mind the actual course so much for what you pay to play it, but hate how long it takes. Having that long par 3 as the #2 hole really bogs everything down right off the bat, then having a short par four a few holes later bogs it all down again.

Not gonna lie, I'm impressed.

So you're saying a sewage ditch running through a golf course is acceptable?
Yes, a drainage ditch running through a course is acceptable for a $20 per round cart included on a weekend. It's a course for students. It's cheap and you get what you pay for, which in my opinion is a great deal.
I would not have played as much golf as I did in college had it not been for LSU and City Park. And because of that I now appreciate and love the game even more.

You should check out some other college campus courses and their $20 student fees. Pretty sure Clemson's could host a PGA event (full disclosure they went up to $24 walking).

It ain't $20 cart included on a weekend. It isn't $20 cart included on a week day.
Bottom line the course has gone to crap. They need to either redo it or close it.

Course has gone to crap, but for 7$ walking at twilight during the week I certainly don't mind it for a cheap round. It's a good course for practicing and it is priced as such. Expectations should never had been high in the first place.

It was suppose to close down after the golf pro retired. Don't know why it never happened.

I used to work here and have maintained contact with a few guys in the know surrounding the LSU Golf Course. A couple of things are involved. They never filled Mike's spot because a woman deemed that she can do as good of job. She has hiked up the fees and virtually destroyed the upkeep/chemical budget. Apparently, she's %95 of the problem. No fertilizing, herbicide for the clumps of grass in the greens, and they are still plagued with a super lazy superintendent. who has been fired from every job he's had.
secondly, every LSU student pays a golf fee. In my days, it was to the tune of $30+ a semester. LSU realized that if you turn that into a parking lot then you'd lose out on $900,000+ a semester. Hence why you still have a course.
The new guy they hired to replace Mike is already retired and DGAF about the course as long as his student workers show up and punch in. I've heard that they are going to push to turn into a student only 9-hole course/range and convert the other 9 to parking lot. That way they can keep the fee and let TAF charge dearly for the parking spots.
As for the design of the course, they let some dumbass with no business designing courses convince them to put the first tee box out in BFE and the first 8 holes are pretty much ones that you can make in two shots which is why its slow out there.
I played my last round out there $35 a while back and won't be going back. Just not worth that kinda money for the goat ranch it has morphed into.

That's sad the hear. When I was in school I used to play it for $14 with cart. Overcrowding and large groups were always a problem.
And what is it with marshals in BR? They seem to all suck. I haven't played Webb since I told a marshal to go frick himself after he accused me, playing by myself, of slow play. I was behind a group of seven and the group behind me was complaining. Seven. Went back to the clubhouse and haven't been back since.
On the other hand, played Carter Friday and it was absolutely fantastic shape.

Answer Mike retired. They told him the course was closing so he decided to retire. About three days before it was set to close admin called him up and said they wanted to keep it open. They are closing it down but do not have the funding to build what they want. They do not want it to become an overgrown field. They had already taken down all the signs and other amenities on the course. Mike is still there part time, talked to him for about 20 minutes the last time my buddie and I played the course. my buddies worked for Mike for about 5 years as a student, so we know him pretty well.
