Nah, he's alive. Trying to get in real estate last I talked to him (a couple of months ago). Got tired of dealing with the same bureaucratic bs that is ruining most work environments so he retired.

Great dude with lots of cheerin

This is a complaint? What are you doing in the ditches?

A) I have a knack for seeking out water, ditches, etc...
B) I used to remember they actually cut the grass along the banks of the ditches. Don't believe they've done that in a long time.

The fact is, it's pretty damn reprehensible to charge anyone $35 to play that course. If it was $15 i wouldn't be bitching. But seeing as i can pay $15 more for a course that is light years better, is absurd.

Joe?

Pinecone Joe retired and some woman came in.

ETA: Another reason the course has plummeted. Joe was a huge fan of golf and wanted the course to be pristine and affordable.

I don't remember his name. This was back in the late 90s. The prick had glasses and a shite eating grin.

Yeah. That's him. He used to walk through the cart barn and get kids fired if they weren't looking busy.

First I've heard of $35. I played out there twice last month and was only charged $22 on the weekend.. I guess it's possible they assumed I was still a student and just gave me the student rate.

Anyway, it is what it is. And at that rate it is easily the best value in the area for a decent, cheap round. The course is better than Webb.. And LSU is the only public driving range worth a shite to practice at. Caddyshack is gone.. Sherwood is way the frick.. Santa Maria can't hit more than a 4 iron. I hope it doesn't go away for a long time.

Costs me 14 dollars to play during the week. For that amount it is the nicest course you can play at.

Then you must not use the internet to book golf. Far better courses available for $22 or less in the area. LSU needs to close down. Waste of money by LSU.

There are too many courses in the area. If LSU closed and the crappy BREC courses closed (not Webb, Santa or Beaver Creek) we would have some really nice courses to play because the courses that could be something would have more play.

every LSU student pays a golf fee. In my days, it was to the tune of $30+ a semester. LSU realized that if you turn that into a parking lot then you'd lose out on $900,000+ a semester.

Students pay over $1.8M a year for that crap?

Only in Louisiana!

Go to Golf Now. Search for yourself. I have played Beaver Creek, The Bluffs and Copper Mill all for less than $20. I have played Webb Park for less than $20 and it is better than LSU, I don't care what anyone says. Right now there is a Hot Deal for Santa Maria for 1-4 golfers cart included for $15!

Do you need any further proof?

Plus, our tax dollars are going to fund this crappy course so we are actually paying more than the green and cart fee.

ETA: Our tax dollars fund BREC too so it isn't as good of a deal as you think.

I don't care what the rate is at 10am on a fricking Tuesday. I care what it is when I can play golf, which is the weekend. Here are my last 2 rounds booked on golf now.

I have never in my life played golf on a Tuesday and I still get good deals on there. Golf is given away in Baton Rouge area because of LSU and BREC's subsidized courses. I guess I just take the time to look for the deals.

ETA: Pro-Tip - if you want a deal it is better to wait till the day before or the day of because prices drop so they fill up the tee sheet.
