Well tough to leave locked up in a pen

It just said the deer was found in a fenced in area. Doesn't say how high the fence was. Anything less than 8' high fence and that deer wouldn't have any problems jumping it to go in or out of the "pen"

There used to be a stuffed animal museum in Haughton right along Hwy 80 that had a live deer out back. They somehow had a permit for it. That was back in the mid 80’s though.

There were 3 brothers that lived right there. The museum one and one that flew one of the atom bomb missions as part of the crew lived up by the highway and the 3rd brother lived behind them and flew ultralight planes with a group that hangared their planes there on his place.

Im sure they did, but even if not, a partially blind deer would have ended up on somebody's windshield eventually. Those people were doing everybody a favor.

Why couldn't they just relocate the deer to a zoo? Global Wildlife would have taken it I'm sure....LDWF are bunch of savages

The LDWF worries about crap like this

They kind of have to with deer nowadays because of chronic wasting disease. If you live in LA but hunt out of state, you can't even bring the dead deer carcass back across state lines to process it at home. Nothing with spinal column or head tissue attached can be brought across state lines due to CWD restrictions.

LDWF definitely should have went out and checked on this situation, but probably should've just used some discretion to let this one go since the deer wasn't imported from out of state and wasn't being held in a high fence that it couldn't easily jump out of.

Chronic wasting disease (CWD)

It affects all members of the cervid family (all deer species, elk, moose, etc), always fatal, no cure, symptoms may not show up for a couple of years after infection, and I think the only way to test for it involves sampling brain tissue after the animal is already dead.

So they can't just throw a deer like this into a zoo or Global Wildlife type of place because they don't know with 100% certainty that it came from a CWD free area. Risks introducing CWD into the entire herd at the zoo or Global Wildlife.

When the squirrel got snuffed everyone was shitting on New York game wardens like it was something unique to that state I told them they should be mad at game wardens of pretty much every state. I even provided numerous examples (LA included) of the same shite happening elsewhere. But, no......everyone focused on NY like that squirrel was some groundbreaking case.

This shite happens everywhere, in all states. Be mad about it all.

People find fawns all the time and think they are abandon... they aren't.

I'm against both sides here. The people that took a wild fawn due to ignorance and the green jeans being too intrusive.

This one may have actually been abandoned. The mother could have left it knowing it was blind and wouldn't make it. Just a possibility.

State Representative Lauren Ventrella successfully got legislation passed this year allowing for wildlife rehabilitation for certain animals like squirrels, skunks, opossums, raccoons, rabbits, or chipmunks. Ventrella said she believes the spirit of the law that was passed should have included Little Buck.

“I mean, so it comes down to a matter of common sense, right?” Rep. Ventrella said. “If this deer is free to come and go as it pleases, is that really even possessing wildlife in the first place?”

Sometimes deer are inside my fence. I went out the other morning and three were just sleeping in the pasture.

The govt took its deer back, you know since the govt owns all the wildlife…

Killed it…

Then charged the citizen with restitution?

What fricking twilight zone is this?

pretty old for a deer

In fairness it probably wouldn't have made it past 7 months in the wild before something got it.

They didn't say the deer was confined. It could have been a fenced in area with an open gate. WLF would have jumped at the chance to say the deer was in a pen if it was in a closed fenced area.
