Are the lives that would be lost caused by hospitals being at max capacity with no icu beds available. This can include people with Covid19, having a heart attack, serious car wrecks, etc.

If someone gets covid and dies with those beds available, that person was going to die of it eventually, sooner or later. Stay at home just makes “later” a more likely time frame.

So how many people are actually being “saved” by staying at home? Is it 1000 extra people? 10,000?

They are not trying to save lives. They are trying to save hospitals.

That’s why it’s called “flattening the curve”

I don’t think the number of people being “saved” is as big as most think. That’s my point. Flattening the curve saves very few lives in comparison in terms of Covid deaths. But Karen who was texting on her way to get TP will have a fighting chance.

If I had to bet, the majority of people who are just told to stay at home, are recovering and probably don’t have anything more than flu symptoms, and most of them probably have very mild symptoms. If your life is in danger, you’ll get admitted into a hospital

Why are you so mad at the response to Covid-19, and how much attention are you really seeking?

maybe if you start another thread complaining the government will listen to you and end all these useless public safety measures and we can get on with our lives

That is precisely what it is.

Anyone needing ICU and particularly those who require a ventilator to help them get to the point they can recover are the target flattening the curve is trying to save.

OK, so what do you do? You don't know that until they die. Look at Italy's numbers, I think their mortality rate is 5-6 times higher than ours with a large number of those coming after their medical system was overwhelmed.

Some statistician will figure this out based on some set of assumptions but it will all be speculative, there really is no way to know. I suspect the number will be listed in the 6 digits by people with a bias towards this was the right move and in the 4 digits by those think this was a waste of time or a way for the government to seize rights. If I had to take a SWAG I would say 5 digits, but not sure if it'll be closer to 10,00 or 99,999.

The lives being saved

No ones life is being saved. A quarantine doesnt stop you from catching it, just delays it.

Those whose bodies dont reject the virus, are destined to get it. And depending on your existed health you will either recover or die
