Or think of all the soldiers who were just as promising but never made it past the beach at DDay.

Looks like we're headed for a giant D-Day circle jerk this year.

I like it. I'm for it. I'm ready to rock and roll.

We're not.

Plus if you read what the guy actually wrote, you would see the guy had no use for wars.

I have read what he actually wrote. Just like most soldiers, he didn't advocate for war. Most people don't advocate for war. Not sure the point of this stupid sentence.

Why keep fighting the wars for the old farts?

Who, specifically, are the old farts we are fighting for?

I wonder how many lives could be saved if we just tried to get away from oil and leave the fricking middle east god damn alone.

Major Winters never served in the Middle East. What in the hell are you talking about? Are you just virtue signaling "war is bad". Yeah, no shite Sherlock. Anymore revelations to give?

But that won't happen as there is too much money to be made with the military industrial complex.

"All the adulation meant so little to him except as a representative of the men and women who fought in World War II. He always said, 'If you can look in the mirror and know you've done your best, then you've done your job.'”

"Dick Winters did that job, and so much more."

Terrific read on a great, humble man.

I was a Paratrooper and have read about everything I could get my hands on about the Airborne in the European theater. I've got books of maps and I've read after action reports and so on.

I've read about how tough the invasion was and what those guys were up against. It never really connected until I read the book " D-Day with the Screaming Eagles" by George Koskimaki. He sent out letters to 1000 members of the 101st that dropped on D-day asking about their experiences.

Honestly it was a bit shocking. Damn near everyone was injured in some way. This one guy describes coming across a random paratrooper whose nose had been shot off. The guy was worried about what his girl would say back home but he had "Germans to kill" and he went about his business.

Folks were coming across guys that had been shot several times and knew they were going to die. The typical message was move on to your objective. I'm dying but I can hold them off for a while.

This is dedication that borders on maniacal. These were hard men and they deserve all the credit they are given.

Thanks for posting the link. It was a great read.

Great, great man. Great mini-series, my favorite of all time. I admire what these men did, and how they carry themselves now. Dick Winters was what all soldiers should strive to be.

RIP to all soldiers that lost their lives defending our great country.

You would be speaking German, Russian, or Chinese instead of English. And eventually would be taking night classes to become fluent in Arabic

As horrifying as that was, the Korean War was even worse.

What the crap does any of that have to do with WWII. If we can’t even come together to celebrate the heroism of possibly the most just war in the recent history of the world I fear where we are headed as a country.

Dick Winters himself wrote a fine autobiography. I highly recommend it.

Amen!!!!What the idiot doesn't understand, it's men like Dick Winters that insured he wouldn't be speaking German today. Another thing...WE WERE ATTACKED which got us into the war. Thank God there were few like this coward or we would have stayed home and hid!

You’re barking up the wrong tree with that comment. That piece of shite has no pride in her country, she’d probably rather be speaking a different language

I noticed that his autobiography was somewhat panned by critics, although they loved the Band of Brothers.

I was going to read it until I read that, but you've now got me interested again.

You sound conflicted. I doubt Dick Winters was ever conflicted about things.
