The Holiday Inn Holidome

Pretty sure our family stayed at his exact one. They used to be scattered all over the county. Indoor pool and other attractions for the kids, and a Tiki bar where mom and dad could get their drink on and calm their nerves after ten hours in a confined space with the rugrats.

Never been in that part of HI but I’ve caught many a fish in the barrel at the lounge

There was one on Williams Blvd just off of Vets in Kenner by MSY. When I was about 12, we used to go over there from Metaire to swim when a friend's family used to go on "vacation" in Kenner, from Kenner.
It seemed kind of screwed up to me at the time, but the family was able to enjoy the luxurious accommodations beneath the MSY flight path, while the poor father could continue working his shitty job. My mother wisely told me to shut the frick up about it and enjoy the pool.

how would you know and why would you worry about their financial status as a 12 year old?

The hotel was about 3 or 4 miles from their house in University City. And we were swimming at their hotel room.
At 12, you - or at least I did - become aware of poverty.

I believe that was a film location for Jaws II, circa 1978.

I stayed at a place in Texarkana about 10 years ago that looked just like that. I don't think it was a Holiday Inn anymore though
