honestly love the hell out of history like this. There's always been this mystery about old Louisiana that's fascinated me.

Ain’t got nothing on those Sabines from Pont Aux Chene.

Well, someone was here first but we don't know who. Maybe Vikings.
Armstrong and Aldrin are not referred to as Moon-Natives.

I know some Redbones, and they are really good people....IMO.

I was born in DeRidder, raised mostly in Sugartown and Cravens. Live in LC now. My 4th great grandparents on my father's side were both full blood Cherokee. Lots of Natives from around here.

We always called the people from Oakdale (Allen Parish) Redbones.
Oakdale, Plainview, Pitkin, Elizabeth, just to name a few small town noted for "Redbones". We just referred to them as "from across the river" (Calcasieu River).

yeah, I remember you speaking of that earlier. My grandfathers land was taken by fort polk way back when. My mother and aunt found out 30? years later the government was giving some restitution to the families. Of course, they were 2 months late in filing and got nothing.

My family was told to either sell it to the Army, or they would run it through court until we were out of money.

Agree totally.
To add a little more to that area, there’s a nice little museum in Leesville about the New Llano community, a socialist utopian settlement that rose and fell in the 1920s.
Louisiana is full of local museums that have done a great job of preserving the local history.

I was probably around there somewhere in that picture. The 4th used to be a kick arse party at Holly Beach!

My grandad did business with the New Llanos. They were good at fence building and carpentry. He would trade with them, they didn't use money if I remember correctly. The leader eventually left with all the members money they had brought when they first arrived. Granddad called them socialist, believe they were more communist tho.

My old man used to talk about the Sabines back around the Bon Chances between Grand Bayou and White Castle. Said they'll pull a knife on your arse for just being there.

I am familiar with Redbones. One of the local summer league baseball teams was named the Redbones, when I was young. Seems like the business that sponsored them had them remove the “B” from their jerseys to become the Red ones, as to not offend anyone.
