Yeah I'm single making pretty decent money for my first job out of school. dont feel like living with a roommate. Don't think i could afford to buy house that would be where I would want to live. Have no problem renting until I get my PE and a pay bump.
ETA: I could definitely afford it, but I'm choosing to save a pretty good bit in my retirement accounts right now

Alot do, alot don't. It really just depends, but there's no doubt that less tradesman get benefits on average than "professionals." If you're an accountant that doesn't have their own shop it's pretty much guranteed you would have benefits. Of course it's not 100%, but not having benefits would be the exception not the rule.

There's certaintly nothing wrong with being a tradesman. We need them and they can make an honest living. Some can even do really well for themselves, but many on this board think that being in a trade is equivalent to having a good college degree. Having to travel and work longer hours for the same or less money is not desirable for most people.

I don't know about that. I think that a lot of posters simply recognize it as a better alternative to getting deeply in debt for a liberal arts degree that is unlikely to pay for itself.

If you were born in the 40s, you probably made $300-$400 a month when you started your career.
