Has anyone driven between New Orleans and Baton Rouge in the last day on Airline? Is it passable? How much time did it take? Thanks.

Is it falling on Ponderosa or holding steady? Need to try and get by the Mobil as soon as cars can pass.

I'm off of hwy 929 behind the Prairieville Park softball field. Water is dropping and has been for about the last 3-4 hours. Henry Rd. should be dropping also. Just passing this on. Thanks to all those that posted through this event. I was up late last night/this morning reading all the updates. You guys were great a few weeks ago through the shooting and now this. It means so much to those of us who are mostly lurkers. Thanks again and I hope everyone stays safe

Is I-12 open from Walker to Madisonville? I know the other direction is closed.

Fun fact - for an event that has a 1/100 chance of occurring, like a 100 year flood, any location on earth is 26% likely to experience such a flood 2 times in 100 years and 8% likely to experience it 3 or more times.

Water in the lakes and ponds at Keystone of Galvez have been pretty steady the last 2 hours. Looks like the lake level in middle lake by the bridge may have even dropped a slight bit.
The lakes/ponds are all connected to Bayou Henderson so hopefully this means relief is on the way for people near the bayou.

May be a dumb question, but was there a significant enough amount of rain north of Louisiana to create problems for us later this week as stuff drains?

I think this term "100 year flood" gives people a false sense of security and can impact sound financial decisions as well as immediate decisions such as when to evacuate, etc.
We were told that the 77 flood was one in a 100 years, 1983 was one in 500 years and now we have this one which made the 77 flood look like a baby.
Could we see worse? I think we can especially if we had s strong SE fetch from the GOM holding up the outflow of the Amite River.
Yes, this rainfall was an unusual event, but it wasn't entirely unprecedented. It's the Gulf Coast, and it rains a lot. Sometimes it rains torrentially.
In 1977,much of EBR, LP, and AP was low lying palmetto and hardwood bottomland. Nobody cared if it flooded. And, this is the important part, it held water to soak in or drain off slowly. 40 years later, a lot of that land is taken up by subdivisions and strip malls. It changes the dynamic entirely.
A few developers have gotten rich, and tens of thousands of people live in zones that are at higher risk of flooding than they ever anticipated. This is the part no one wants to talk about as yet. Maybe it will lead to a discussion about land-use planning in Louisiana, one that we've never had before. I'm not holding my breath.

Update: Bluebonnet btw Burbank and Highland still full of water and possibly very slowly rising.
Burbank to Nicholson : dry
East boyd: couple pockets of water, nothing major.
Best part: Siegen/Burbank and Highland is starting to recede. Very very slowly but clear signs of receding.
