The difficulty of this situation is people are unaware and unprepared. And people think areas that haven't ever flooded won't ever flood. So people aren't being vigilant.

I told him that, but he said his wife wants to stay. I told him they might wake up to wet carpet, or worse, water in their house still.

I went and looked. I saw that someone put tape across between the stop signs at your area. Man, I'm praying that it will stop rising soon. I honestly think you'll be OK. It's in the street, but there's a good bit it will have to rise from street to elevate into home.

i'm very, very lucky. my yard is a swamp. my roads are rivers. my house is dry, but my back patio is a pool. my so left me today at 1pm because he was so worried he wouldn't be able to make it to work tomorrow. he's a first responder so when he finally got worried-- i got worried. i'm just too close to the mississippi and bayous to have stayed dry. i'm hoping the worst is over.

Jones Creek at Old Hammond has not moved in two hours, is this leaning towards the crest?
It does seem that way looking at the recent values and the graph looks like it's beginning to peak. I'll defer to someone with more knowledge than me.

Wouldn't shock me if in the morning that entire street is underwater. May not reach the houses but its going to be crazy what people wake up to.
I'm in Highland Club too (same place as that pic). Wife and kids are sleeping, I might wake them up and get out. Will take a walk around outside first and report back.

No - Jones Creek seems to be filling in the Flannery branch first. Police Scanners had the Flannery section of Jones Creek overflowing as early as 30 minutes ago. Not over yet.

Things are leveling off:
LINK
This could be for many reasons though as far as Jones Creek is concerned - things could be leveling off because it is spilling out over a bank in the Flannery branch of Jones Creek. Just keep your wits about you.

If you are towards the front towards Jefferson, you are in better shape than in the back.
Don't know how bad it will get, but I wouldn't be shocked if some cars and homes flood back there.

Alright everyone - I am getting sleep. I can't stay up any further. I'll try to wake up early and take a look but at this point, nothing more I can do. When I wake up I expect Bayou Fountain to start flooding.

I'm sure the swamp is flooded behind their house, but I haven't spoken with them since earlier in the day. The major rain in March didn't come anywhere close to their house, but the water was touching the top of the door step at my house in Hammond. So I'm going to assume since the water hasn't reached that point tonight, they should be good. Ponchatoula creek is certainly backing up in Hammond quickly tho.

Just walked back to look. Water going backwards. 7 or so feet from overtopping

So will back flow become less of an issue or more as the crest moves downstream? In my mind it seems like less since downstream watershed has had a chance to clear out some. Is this totally wrong?

As per scanner, sounded like water starting to take over darwin blvd. south of flannery/florida.

I think there's more elbow room for it to fan out towards the lower end of the water shed.

Where would the water be coming from..i need to look at the map again
It doesnt show on google map but we have ditch/waterway that takes all the drainage from everything south of Old Hammond from Jefferson to Tara, this waterway turns into Wards Creek at Old Hammond Park, I feel safe and know it is probably a long shot since it is the beginning of Wards, just dont want to have to up root my parents again.
