As if we needed anymore reference on the severity of this event, the Amite River at DS stops recording flow rates once it reaches 100 kcfs (thousand cubic feet per second), which occurred when the river was 5 feet lower than it is now.

Based on the log scale of height to flow rate, the river is probably flowing at 145ish kcfs, roughly 40% of the volume flowing through the Mississippi River at Baton Rouge on a typical August day.

Scanner just said Jones Creek @ Coursey has water over the road.

If I'm reading the map right, it's 4 feet or so higher than the flood zone next to it. This might be worse than we all expected.

I wish I could lay my eyes on the area honestly.

I know this is primarily a br and lp thread. But water is beginning to back up in hammond, ponchatoula, and springfield areas.

Any specific spot in ponchatoula?

Yeah. Scanner may be mistaken too. May be "coursey cove" and not "coursey blvd". If it's Coursey/Jones Creek....that's around 38-39 feet.

Anyone live in the area that can comment?

Flandry and Florida underwater and water rising fast. This is on the Jones Creek watershed. Several people are stuck in traffic and water rising in the area. This is a clear example of crazy backflow.

We have a ways to go until backflow on Jones is done, and MUCH more to go until Clay Cut.

Unless I'm misreading it, tomorrow doesn't look bad. If we can just get one full dry day so some of this shite can flow, it should help A LOT.

It's not that difficult to dissect what's going on. EBR Parish engineer should be giving the warning. I don't blame the folks living on Burbank or Essen for not paying attention to the Amite River. How would they know?

Can anyone confirm water is rising around Sherwood? My grandmother lives there. Was perfectly fine about 2 hours ago. Is this from the canals backing up?

Yep. They got the horses out and are being kept with someone in a barn on high ground

I think the local media have not warned people about this threat enough. People are going to go to sleep thinking that everything is okay. They'll wake up to wet carpet. People will have to be evacuated at night....and a lot of them will go to friends homes in parts of Baton Rouge along Dawson or Bayou Fountain that will flood 5-6 hours later.

Does anyone have an email contact at WAFB or something that might be interested in this? I'm sure everyone is asleep.
