You make it sound like you will be forced to spend time in this new beer garden

Maybe. I think some folks just get angry that there are more options than Bud, Miller, Coors, and Michelob.

Biking just isn’t realistic unless for sport with the distance, heat, and humidity combined with alcohol. Maybe during winter, but still the distance factor. I have seen plans for biking paths more like trails isolated from directly beside the roads in Baton Rouge that seem would be enjoyable
If I stand outside when it’s hot I’m exiting my vehicle partially frozen so I can remain comfortable through the thaw out period
I think outdoor drinking spaces become hipsteresque because it’s preferred for smokers and those more tolerant for feeling muggy
It’d be nice to do something unique to accommodate the Louisiana whether like a temperature controlled artificial outdoor space including sky details indoor. With day and night lighting. Would be super expensive though frick, but a neat attraction I’d say

I don't care if they put a beer garden on every corner. Just don't delete half of Government Street and call it an improvement. I'd love to see a revitalized five lane Government Street including a turning lane running the length of it. Bike and walking lanes are a laughable waste.

You argue that this project could hurt businesses, yet your idea is probably more likely to hurt businesses. How is there enough space between the road and businesses for that?

He doesn’t care about business. Just that his commute to and from work is as convenient as possible.

You don't live in Capital Heights and we don't care about your commute. Use Florida Blvd or North Boulevard. The End.

Here's hoping Waze turns your street into the new alternate route around Government.

that picture looks way to clean to be government street.

There are numerous streets that run parallel to Government street that can take you downtown. Geez Louise.
The amount of people who complain that BR is a shithole and then rail against any improvements that are attempted is maddening.
You guys ever stop to think...*ahem*...maybe you are part of the problem.

The problem is a handful of folks living near a state highway and some businesses on that state highway believe the highway is their own personal Main Street and think they can turn their little part of the world into Mayberry.
Government Street, La. 73 was originally part of the main highway to New Orleans. It became one of the main arteries from East to West in EBR. People don't go out of their way to use it, they use it because it's convenient.
You guys are looking at just yourselves and not the good of the whole.
Taxpayers of EBR and the state helped build Government Street not a few thousand folks that live in the vicinity. Now the same folks are rebuilding it for you and you guys act as if it's an entitlement.

Who gives a damn what number a post is?
I just dislike the hipocrisy from those who complain yet remain in stasis.
