Yes they did, but they hinted that they could revisit it later.

LOL.. Superintendent hired his first cousin to be CFO.
At this point I am for scrapping all of these small parks and making 1 or 2 multi acre complexes that have everything at them AND a lot of real live police providing security.

I’ve got information from someone inside BREC that they’re currently shitting their pants over the spotlight that’s been placed on them.
At least two of their executive level officers barely show up to work and are essentially MIA.

While it’s technically his first cousin, they’re essentially brothers. They were raised under the same roof.

Don't go and google how much cash the EBR Library has on hand. It'll make you sick
On that note, any EBR baws got a library card they don't mind letting me use for Libby?

Ever loved anywhere other than BR? If you have, you know that the BR library is incredible. I don't know why anyone would complain about the one great thing in the city.

Rolfe McCollister: Mayor Broome and BREC failed us
EBR governing doesn’t work, Broome has failed us, but Rolfe still fought StG area getting more self-governance to overcome these EBR & BR’s failures.

Because they spend way too much money. And they are sitting on a ton of cash because they get something like 3x what they actually need to provide a good, properly-sized library system.
Some of that money could go to something that citizens actually want, like fighting crime.

Those two got dedicated taxes to get them off the general budget so that the metro council could take the funding which had been earmarked in the budgets and spend it on other shite.
Yep, they sold the taxes as needing to raise money needed to continue the library. Library just can't survive without these additional funds.
As soon as the tax passed, EBR slashed their funding of the library, without a corresponding decrease in taxes collected. so, we pay more, the library gets the same amount of funding, and parish government gets a nice new slush fund. it's a win-win situation. polititians get a warm place to put their dicks and taxpayers get dicks up their asses.

You cannot take money from a dedicated tax and put it towards something else unless it’s voted upon.

Rolfe can frick right off. That asshat ENDORSED Broome when she ran the first time. His endorsement helped generate business money for her election. Everyone knew she would be a disaster and yet he helped propel her into office. He’s a friggin idiot.

Basically webble beach and Santa Maria and the only 2 golf courses even worth playing in BREC.
Santa Maria is the crown jewel of BREC properties, yet it has become so poorly maintained that homeowners are concerned about their property values and recently met with BREC bigwigs. BREC's response? We don't have the manpower.

So how do we solve it baw? We're outnumbered at the ballot box, and political power is the only way to change this. Maybe demand that republicans at the state level intervene?

the metro council
Like not giving librarians a raise even though the library wants to AND has the funding for it
So salty because they cannot line their own pockets

McCollister plays the middle.
He bounces from being conservative to a player in the city hall crowd. That’s his deal.
He is off that ship right now, but right now he is doing the right thing. But you are right, you can’t trust him.

I don’t doubt it’s incredible. They are extremely well funded. They should be.
But what good is it if it’s not safe to go there?
Shouldn’t public safety come first?
I’ll take a good library system in a safe community any day.

It wouldn’t be easy.
We need some leadership to get the word out.
But no one wants to rock the boat.

The library and BREC are overfunded.
The difference is, the library actually puts their money into their properties and they are really good, not that anyone should care about a fricking library in 2024, or that they should be receiving that much money.
BREC on the other hand ignores the majority of their properties, and most look no different than they did 30 years ago. Don't forget that a 3rd world country was supposed to play a soccer game at Olympia and took one look at the field and said we aren't playing on this shite field.
Most of our parks are embarressing compared to the rest of the states bigger cities. New Orleans has nicer venues for youth sports, as does Mandeville, Lafayette, Lake Charles, and Shreveport.
The EBR-uh way of running things has to change. It's not 1985 anymore. Zachary, Central and St. George should be in control of their own cities, as should Baton Rouge. Having the Baton Rouge mayor and other parish wide idiots in charge of departments in those 3 cities when all they care about is the city of Baton Rouge, needs to change. Baton Rouge handles Baton Rouge, everyone else handles everyone else. There are no more unicorporated areas to worry about anymore. They all have their own city representation now. BREC should sell off their properties in Zachary, Central and St. George and let them handle them and have their own recreation department.
