I would let my kids go to a public school in BR.
Am I doing it right?
quote:Congrats on giving them a C-D rated education.
In fact, I did, starting with kindergarten.
I can't blame parents of SG for wanting better.

Answer this honest question guys:
Please answer this question for the few thousand Magnet School parents in the St. George district. Give them something substantive and persuasive to chew on. Why should they not favor the status quo?

quote:No, he didn't. He said he graduated in 1990. He also said "prior to 1990 when the school system was decent....." So those comments don't tell me when he believes the downward spiral period was. Did they start in 1990? So did he graduate in the first year of the downward spiral? Or does he believe the downward spiral started in 1995? Or, 1999? Is the downward spiral period over or is it continuing?

Just let him answer, okay?

If everyone votes for what's best for them and their families it will pass overwhelmingly.
I think you said once you have one in Baton Rouge high one in Sherwood middle, and one in a magnet elementary school. I'm not going to be mad at you for voting against incorporation.
With that said, I have a 2 year old and a 6 month old... If things go as planned by the time they get into school there should be a top tier system and I'm hoping gifted/magnet programs. I'm going to vote for what's best for mine.

It's funnier how, so far, the vast majority of people who live in SG don't want a vote.
I don't have a dog in the fight, I am just enjoying watching the liberals bitch and complain about losing their funding
As far as who does and doesn't want a vote on this I guess this will all be decided if or if they don't get enough names on the petition to bring it to a vote.

I am a graduate of BRHS, and a resident of St. George. I would send my kids there(BRHS) tomorrow if I could. I received a top-notch education. Unfortunately there is a waiting list to get in, and there is absolutely no other viable public high school in Baton Rouge. I am not going to gamble and hope they get in some day. I'll move where I am most confident they will receive a quality education. If St. George fails for some reason, I'll be leaving the area. If it passes then at least there is a chance things will change!
With entrance classes of around 300(BRHS), I think you are grossly overestimating the number of parents with kids in magnet schools residing in St. George, particularly high school.
The reality is that the average kid is...well, average. This is the mass that needs to be nurtured (while additionally striving to provide a BRHS like environment for the applicable kids). It is a question of the greater good. Central and Zachary have proven that it is possible to provide a much better system than EBRPSS. I can't think of any reason the majority of parents wouldn't want out of EBRPSS. Itinferior in every way to Zachary, Central, and looking outside of the parish; Ascension and Livingston.

What's your plan if things stay the same in EBR? Just curious.

Even so, would any of the BRHS parents be that upset if they had to send their kids to a school with the quality of Zachary, St. Amant, Dutchtown?
Probably not.
Would they be upset if they got stuck with Woodlawn, McKinley, Tara?
Probably so.
It's not about the few lucky families in BRHS. It's about what's available to everyone else.
Good enough answer for you pimp?

The wife and I haven't started our family yet, but we are in the same boat. If this fails, we will end up in Ascension, Central, or somewhere on the Northshore. My wife is a public school teacher and believes in public education.....nut not EBRPSS!

Yeah. I'm guessing the non-BRHS SG parents are going to vastly outnumber the BRHS SG parents.

Explain something to me.
Why are the people outside the proposed St.George area so against this? If the people living in this area vote to create there own city why would anyone outside of their give a shite? Why shouldn't they as United States citizens be able to do this? Why should anyone outside of this area care or even have a say?

I'm hoping gifted/magnet programs.
That takes your children through 5th grade, right there in the SG neighborhood.
By the time your children get to middle and HS, with the positive direction the schools have shown since the fed court got out of running our schools, I would not be surprised at all if the existing middle and HS in SG would be B or A rated.

I think this too. Just put it to a vote. If you don't want it, vote against it. If you want it, vote for it. If you don't live there, shut up.

People pay the closest attention to high school performance, and BRHS is the class of the field. It's not the only magnet school, but it is the only magnet high school that concerned parents would send their kids to.

Dude I was not implying you were nor do I care. But I have been reading enough about this to know damn well that the majority of people against this tend to lean toward the left wing democrat side.

well you got that going for you. But you might want to cancel that membership, when they start going after guns and gunowners the first thing they are going to do is seize the records of the NRA and its members. That's why I will never join.
