What's your plan if things stay the same in EBR? Just curious.

When the first was born I started putting money from each check aside for MBS.

However, once I was introduced to daycare costs I realized I'll in effect get a raise when it comes to private school. We've also looked at homes in Zachary and Praireville.

Ebrpss isn't an option. After reading about the 14 year old girl that was drug into the boys bathroom at Woodlawn and molested, and then the ensuing year long coverup.... I don't want my daughter anywhere near that mess.

I guess this is too simple and makes too much sense.

LT, there is a house up the street in Zachary that you may want to look at.

New neighborhood, house is less than three years old, and if I am able to tell from the outside, it looks like a 4 bedroom model larger than the one I live in.

It has only had a sign up for a few days so it may not be on MLS yet.

Why shouldn't they as United States citizens be able to do this? Why should anyone outside of this area care or even have a say?

Why don't we all divide into a city? Each street is its own city. No, wait, let's make each house its own city! Then we REALLY can be in control of our lives, right?

To answer your question, I believe Balkanizing EBR into separate kingdoms with additional layers of government bureaucracy would not be a good thing. I believe there is a benefit to having a more unified approach to spreading out the fixed costs of a city, such as streets, bridges and other infrastructure.

However, you won't find a single post by me that says they don't have a right to decide for themselves.

All I've posted repeatedly is the SG leaders are misleading the SG residents into thinking there will be no new taxes needed (it's on their official website) to do all the things they claim they will do, including building SIX new schools in the area. The leaders of Central City told their constituents the same thing before they incorporated. One of those leaders, Bodi White, is doing it again in SG.

I don't believe politicians when they tell us we can have more stuff but it won't cost anyone more. Can you say Obamacare?

Central City raised taxes in spite of their claims no new taxes would be needed. Zachary raised taxes, a LOT, when they got their new school system.

Those are facts and those facts seem to upset some people in SG.

Good to know, thanks!

Downward spiral began in mid to late 80's and hopefully has hit bottom, but I am not sure as there seems to be an investigation going on currently

I'm close friends with a coach at an area sg middle school. The ratings don't reflect the reality he describes to me.

I pray that things become decent, but where we stand now.... The shite he tells me is downright scary. I know my conversations with my buddy mean nothing to you. But in all honesty, it means a great deal to me in my decision making.

You are absolutely right that the first 5 years at Shenandoah and Parkview elementary are fine. The uncertainty after that is what is terrifying.

Aside from that is the money thing we continue to disagree about. The money refered to in the link from the first post in this thread.

Just continue to ignore the fantastic gifted program at Parkview Elementary,
Why do you continue to ignore the 80% of schools that are C rated or below?
Why are you trying to mislead these people into believing that EBR schools are even close to what they can get at Zachary, Dutchtown, or St Amant?

So, you advise just hoping for the best? Hope EBRSB turns it around. SG parents should feel comforted that their kids will get a good EBR education b/c "YOU would not be surprised" if they got better.

How about this? I would be surprised if they ever get above 50% rated above a C. See.... we both can throw out assumptions that can't be proven.

Hey, SG parents.... don't try to set up a school district like Zachary and ensure your kids an A+ rating..... just hope that EBR gets there.

You do realize that you are defending EBR schools.... You do realize that, right?

At Kenilworth Middle School? If so, you realize that is not an EBR Parish system school, right?

Okay, my children started school after that time period. So I guess they went to EBR schools all during the "downward spiral."

I own rental property in St George area and Baton Rouge.

I will see a benefit from higher taxes in ST George for neighborhood schools. I can attract better tenants willing to pay more money.

Baton Rouge if St George does become a city or does not become a city the metro council, CATS, and other organizations will hit me with more taxes with no benefit from it. Sad part is the more desirable tenants are leaving the area for areas with better school systems.

I don't but unlike you I don't ignore the improvement over the past 4 years. There is no reason to think that improvement won't continue.

I'm pointing out the untruths some people have posted about EBR schools. Do you have a problem with that?

ETA:

Are you saying if SG sets up its own school district, all of the schools will be 'ensured' to be A+ rated schools?

Central tried that and their high school is still rated a B school. Baker did it and their entire system is rated a D.

Nope not Kenilworth, but that is interesting as well

So by process of elimination I guess your kid went to BRHS? Did they get there through the lottery, or through political pull?

All I can say we can debate back and forth about this.

The best part is the people who do not live in the area have the most to lose, and are complaining the most CANNOT VOTE!.

FIFY. You. Lack. Credibility.

SG leaders are misleading the SG residents into thinking there will be no new taxes needed
And you have yet to prove them wrong. You post circumstantial evidence of per capita taxation of other areas and assume it will directly correlate with SG. If you claim central is a valid comparison. I'll claim Sandy Springs, GA as one.

Until you can provide a definitive budget, it's just your speculation, which isn't worth much.

Those are facts and those facts seem to upset some people in SG.
What upsets them isn't new taxes. It's race-baiting hacks like you that label everyone a racist b/c of where they live.

Plus, you've been completely embarrassed on the main issue, non-select public HS education.
Your opinion that "hope for the best" in EBR is a better option than doing what Zachary did is beyond laughable. No one should take you seriously.
