one good thing about doing some criminal work is that even on my worst day, i can go back and think about situations i'm not in

you can work back

....OK, i'm not under any threat of death

...OK< i have no major physical disability

....OK, i'm not going to jail for a long time

...OK, i don't have to spend any time in jail

...OK, i'm not on probation

...OK, i don't have a felony conviction

...OK, i don't have any criminal conviction

...OK, i have a professional license under no threat

...OK, i have a college education

etc

Right, but the feds get their tip from somewhere. They just don't go looking into every case of a federal judge for some scandal.

These days any time a high profile person gets caught for an indiscretion, we won't stop until we absolutely destroy them.

i don't even know that much about the story other than its cautionary tale values

people get encircled in their own bubble and believe their greatness, infallibility, and indestructibility

we're lawyers. we see this with our cohorts all the time

This dude has had his career and much of his life torn apart by this thing, which is certainly all his own fault. After all the dust settles what does a person even do? Move to a new community where no one knows you and get a job at the Cinnabon?

i often wonder about that with lawyers who lose their license, esp ones who primarily practice in "lower areas" like family law, criminal law, etc (i am not hating; i do these things). these areas don't really translate to other industries

if you're a corporate attorney, you gain contacts and skills within that world and can theoretically transition

hell one of the enron guys (the accountant under skilling. forget his name) teaching accounting ethics now

it was all over the front page of the Arkansas Democrat (whatever paper they have up there) last week. I was eating breakfast with my dad and saw it and started laughing and told him how dumb this dude was

me too.

But seriously as a relatively younger guy, it is pretty much inconceivable for me to imagine spending all that time, work, and money just to go through school and then the even longer years building a career into a fairly prominent position in your field, and now it's all pretty much worthless. You can't work in the field anymore, and anywhere they have heard of you, you aren't respected. It's crazy to think about.

50K in cash...of which the judge got $25K. What a moron.

A prime example of when a person shows lack of integrity in some areas, there are likely others.

Just coming to chime in that months or a year before he posted Theron's adoption business here, a few of us warned him about posting details about various cases in his courtroom. He always replied that it was public record, blah blah.

He had plenty of reasons/notice/etc to NOT frick his life up, well his political life(if the fed case was independent of TD silliness).

He might find something in another field and may have sort of a normal life after this. Still relatively young. Definitely has to move and will have that record attached to him though.
