If you wanna go down a rabbit hole start looking into the effects of the United States economy, and the decline of the rust belt and association with the expansion of air-conditioning and homes

Your critical thinking has melted?

A cross section of today’s temps, aye?

Might pattern, number and frequency of new highs be important?

I travel to Europe multiple times a year and have done so for many years. Just back from a Northern European city.

Change (normal) is changing IMHO and experience. Politics aside.

I feel like I came across a video of a lady talking about how the clay that the tunnels were dug out of have slowly been absorbing the heat of the people & trains over the years, because it’s a closed system, and gets hot af down there, over 100° sometimes in the summer.

August would suck without A/C

It would but I think in Europe everyone tries to vacation at the same time in the summer, so no one goes to work for an entire month or a few weeks during the hottest part of the year.

Everyone is summering in some other locale. Must be nice. Some US companies would loose their minds if everyone needed the same time off.

I used to know a guy in Houston whose parents were Brits working in Texas. This was late 90’s. He told me that Brit consulate staff in Houston were given something akin to hazardous duty pay because of Texas temps, the same thing that the staff in places like New Delhi got. 80 for us is a pleasant day. 80 for them is a heat wave. Makes me wonder how Rommel and Montgomery managed their troops in North Africa.

Shouldn't Europe be banning air conditioning in order to save the planet?

They basically have. It’s notoriously hard to get a permit to add A/C, especially existing buildings.

More Europeans die from heat stroke than Americans die from gun-related injuries. By far. Probably double in most years.

From Chat GPT:

So, is the statement accurate?
• Yes, it is factually accurate that in those recent summers, Europe saw more heat-related deaths (e.g., ~61,700 in 2022; ~47,700 in 2023) than the U.S. had gun-related deaths in a given year (~47,000 in 2023).

61,700 heat-related deaths in 2022. fricking crazy.

For reference, in 2021 there were 1,600 heat-related deaths in the United States.

Yes, it gets hot in Europe in the summer, a short summer.

Americans forget how far north Europe is compared to the U.S.

For example, Rome, Italy, one of the southernmost capital cities in Europe, is on the same latitude as New York City.

Berlin, Germany is on the same latitude as southern Hudson Bay, Canada.

You have headlines in conflict with the Europe assertion. At this rate we will boil in 20 years. You know in 200 years petroleum will be gone. The era of petroleum will be a small aberration on the history of man.

I have a few European friends, all of them this year are moaning about the lack of A/C. One couple don't have it in their home and when my wife video calls they look miserable and tired.

What's crazy is that as much as they want it now, many are sticking to their green guns and doing everything to keep folks from getting a/c.

Best time to go to Europe is Christmas....you don't have to worry about this crap
