LOL at closing Southeastern with 15,000 students.

This has been done 5-6 times over the past 8 months

UL is still much larger than SELU
16,500 vs 15,000 is "much larger" ?

no politician has the guts to suggest any of this
even mentioning the possibility of SU and GSU being closed would cause riots

Lafayette is one of maybe three areas in this state with actual promise
UNO, LSU, Tech, and UL-Lafayette should actually gain programs out of any consolidation. As pointed out, there are programs that can be salvaged out of Southeastern, Nicholls State, and McNeese if they could be re-focused to a more community college role. Redundant programs should be shuttered.
Now as far as what to do about LSU-S, LSU-A, and LSU-E, I think two should be retained as 2 year feeder schools.

The problem with these types of closures is that it completely forgets about low income or non traditional students that can't pickup everything and move to a new city for college.
Given that the graduation rate of all of the smaller schools (Southeastern, Nicholls, ULM, La Tech, ULL, etc) is under 50%, and in a few cases under 40%, with the exception of Tech, which is 50.8%, people are not taking advantage of the education that is in their backyard now. Better to close the schools, save money and devote more resources to fewer colleges.

Not all three.
Perhaps two of them can become 2 year feeder schools for the 3rd (and LSU's main campus).

Raise admissions requirements. Anyone below a 3.0 and/or 24 ACT has to go to a CC first.

People just don't want to let go of "their" school, no matter how shittily it performs.
And yes, shittily is a word.

It shouldn't be closed, but it should be rebuilt into a community college. The handful of competitive programs there should be moved to UNO, LSU, or UL-Lafayette.

I think UL's total is closer to 18,000. Was thinking SLU was about 12,000.

Should not be closed, because of the Nursing program and Business School.
The best of those programs can be moved to or combined with UNO, UL-Lafayette, or LSU.
