So it added 3 parishes to overtake S/BC.

The lines between those five parishes has become almost non-existent with the growth in the region over the last decade. Looking at them now it's hard to imagine how Acadia, Vermilion, and Iberia weren't a part of earlier censuses.

SELU is a better university than UNO is. If anything, move the higher performing colleges to SELU, and close UNO down.

Others that should be closed:

Grambling
McNeese/ULL (Either/Or)
UNO

The last engineering school in New Orleans. Good luck luring LSU grads, and if you do, they will pay a lot more. The next closest engineering school might actually be ULL.

Youd think engineers would be valuable right now in New Orleans...

How in the world is LSUS similar? UL is only second in enrollment to LSU. You've yet to make any coherent argument in favor of McNeese.

A lot of them are brought in from out of state to fill positions.

Especially considering Acadia and Vermilion are part of the 15th JDC

Relax, fellas. In my realistic, politically doable scenario, both stay open.

And if they close UNO that situation gets worse... ultimately the citizens would pay that cost.

It's a place to start the discussion....some of those you could probably turn into community colleges/2 yr degree places.

Your argument for ULL is that it has a bunch of students. So does SLU.

My point was if you're willing to leave Shreve w/o a public U, then leaving Laf w/o one is not all that irrational a suggestion

There are only two public universities in NO, and UNO is one. The rest of the university sucks.

My solution is to move the engineering program to SELU, along with possibly the social sciences college, and shut the rest down.

LSU-BR probably doesn't like the idea of SELU getting a legit school of engineering

I will have a 15 minute commute home today and will pass from Vermilion to Lafayette to Iberia to St. Martin and back to Lafayette during the commute, and will past by either new developments or the beginning phases of a new development for most of the drive.

There are other factors to be considered besides time/mileage

UL is still much larger than SELU and Lafayette is much larger then Hammond. UL also has strong STEM programs which we need more of, not less.

Probably not, but I think that is the best option for both the state and students. Especially if somehow SELU can keep the same approach as they currently have. Quality education for a lower price.

Can we add together the five parishes that funnel to SELU?
