My SIL doesn’t work and her husband holds it over her head all of the time. They want her to get a job, but she doesn’t have a college degree. She got a job working in the front desk at her gym and he’s been a total a-hole about “she only has a job and not a career.”

She literally has no idea about their wills, how much one they have in savings, where they bank, 401(k) account details…. anything and everything related to finance she’s completely excluded from
Doesnt seem to have anything to do with what she chooses to do vocationally. It sounds like he simply resents her, has no respect for her and has chosen to live a miserable life of being an a-hole husband.

But yeah, she should have chosen better.

There is no real paradox, just a linear correlation. The more that women get exactly what they want, the less happy they are.

How old is your kid?

Not trying to be contentious, but want to flesh this out to defend my position.

Gloria Steinem, that strong, independent woman, who married a series of wealthy men.

The options were literally legally not there until the late 20th century in most countries.

It's asinine to think women had the same legal rights as men (in the workplace, voting booth, doctor's office, divorce court, lawyer's office, etc.) until relatively recently.

Women also didn't have to fight and die in wars. In those days given the choice I'd bet they'd rather not vote and not die. Everybody is the world over the course of history had it pretty rough. To act like women had it worse is just dumb.

This constant stereotyping of women is ridiculous.

The female happiness paradox

Whether or not it's a paradox if we're talking about an actual female that desires a man I approach it like any other. Keep it simple. A woman needs to feel desired and appreciated by a man. If she hasn't got the means to acheive that then that's where unhappiness begins no matter what the circumstances.

I'd venture to say that this board is 95% men, opinions will be skewed against women. I am sure that a board comprised of majority would be about the same, just in the opposite direction. Which makes me wonder, what is the female equivalent of a "Simp/White Knight."

To a degree. I’m a man, but I’m also a husband who loves his wife, has theee daughters and a niece he raised as one of his daughters, so I’d like to see a world where they’re not unjustly treated as less than. In that regard that probably makes me something like a 1st waive feminist even though I consider myself a traditionalist who thinks women are generally designed for roles that involve nurturing, motherhood and homemaking. I don’t think it has to be a “for or against” kind of thing.

Good question…I’m thinking a“pick me girl” maybe?

You're justifying women being legally unprotected from rape and property ownership because it was unpalatable

What? No. I'm not justifying anything. I'm just saying there were workarounds and things did occur.

And now those things, the script has been flipped and the gross over correction doesn't seem to be working either.

I asked my little girl what she dreams of doing when she grows up.

She said working on spreadsheets in a cubicle for 8 hours a day.
